Invocation
O Father, Creator of all good things, grant to me this day the courage to give good things as You have given and thereby demonstrate Your heart to those I meet this day and always. In the name of Jesus. AMEN.
Reading Luke 8:26-40; Psalm 71
Reflection
Any child can tell you that the most fun thing about having secrets is telling them to others. Any church consultant can tell you that keeping secrets is the bane of any congregation. Jesus tells us to share the wonderful mysteries, the secrets if you will, the concealed things of the kingdom of God: that Jesus loves the world, that Jesus cares for each of us, that God wants even sinners like me. These wonderful truths, though new and revolutionary are not to be hoarded; they are best shared, shouted from the rooftops.
It is so with all God gives us. Whether it is money, or talents, or spiritual gifts, these good things from God are meant to be shared. It is odd but true-the more you give away, the richer you are; the more you hold on to, the poorer you are.
We can live life trying to be exclusive-I am Jesus' brother-but Jesus will have none of it-all who follow Him are brothers and sisters and mothers. We can live life afraid the ship is going down-and how often we worry about so many things-or we can realize that God is in charge of the boat, and there is no storm in life that Jesus can't bring calm to it.
It all comes down to hearing God's Word ("be careful how you listen"), putting it into practice in our lives , and trusting in the providence of God ("where is your faith?"). Then we can bring right out into the open all that God would have us share to a world needing to hear His message.
Rev. Randy Haedge, Senior Pastor, Bethel Lutheran Church, Dallas, Texas
Pray (As you pray include . . . people who don't know Christ; people who will plant & witness; include people who pray. In addition, pray that the land be quenched with rain and that opportunities to bring God's love to individuals and communities impacted by the wildfires not be missed by God's servants.)
Benediction
Having rested in the presence of Christ, go in His spirit of grace. AMEN .

A special prayer request for the presence of the Gospel in those places devastated by the recent weather events as well as in long term recovery locations.
Lord, give wisdom to your people as they continue to respond to the fears and struggles and needs of those who have lost hope in their lives because of these recent weather events. Your Word brings hope as nothing else can. Bless those on site and those who support from a distance confident in Your promise to restore hearts and minds to Your glory alone. Amen.
|
|
Pray that the members of the Texas District embrace the mission.
Lord, As fears grow concerning local, state, and world events, make Your presence known, through Your church and through Your people in such a way that Your hand of grace would be seen calming hearts and minds ultimately drawing all people to Yourself. Amen.
