Invocation
Almighty Father, by the power of your Spirit, create in me a thirst to desire all that You desire, to go where You would have me go, to speak the words of grace and mercy that You would have others hear. Keep me mindful of Your ever present promise to be with me as I bring Your Gospel to the world and to my neighbor, in the name of Him Who is, Who was, and Who is to come; Jesus. Amen.

Reflections
"Then I remembered what the Lord had said." (v. 16)
Words that once seemed so clear in the moment of hearing become quickly buried in the blur of living. It is true of promises made to family members. At least equally true of promises heard in the company of the Lord's Family.
Peter and the other Apostles had heard Jesus say that people from "all the nations" would become part of Christ's Family through the teaching of the Gospel and baptism into his Name. But the busyness of the tasks at hand, the risks of stepping beyond the known pathways, made the promise blur in their minds. Only a dramatic and bizarre vision and the surprising knock at the door by 3 strangers, complete with an invitation to a Roman officer's home, coupled with the direct voice of the Spirit moved Peter out of the familiar. "Then I remembered...." The working of the Holy Spirit would be truly amazing. Roman Gentiles-of all people!
Like you, I have heard so many of the Lord's promises. They penetrate the heart in the sacred moment of worship. But life is complicated. Risks abound. I find myself simply reacting to events as they unfold. And the Promises become a distant religious memory. Then, in circumstances I cannot explain, a door opens where I never thought possible: a neighbor, coworker, family member shows an interest in Jesus I would never have expected. Now what?!
Then I remembered...Jesus said to expect this! It's what his Spirit does!
Lord...make me ready!
