June 13, 2011, Bozeman, Mont.- The Bozeman Tea Party, the Big Sky Tea Party Association (Helena), Montana Shrugged (Billings) and Sanders County Conservatives will not advocate for any candidates for Chairman of the Montana Republican Party and many other Tea Party groups expected to do the same. The race for Chairman features Will Deschamps, the incumbent against Mark French, the challenger and former primary candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives.
"We have no dog in this fight," says Henry Kriegel, a director of the Bozeman Tea Party. "Our focus is strengthening our local Tea Party, readying ourselves for another successful Get Out The Vote Campaign in 2012, and providing training for our volunteer activists." The organizations supporting this position are also strong supporters and participants with the Montana Tea Party Coalition, a loosely affiliated group of Tea Party and Liberty organizations around the state.
Tea Parties in the State of Montana are non-partisan groups. Individual who affiliate with Tea Parties include Independents, Republicans, Democrats and Constitutional Party members. They span the entire political spectrum, and each group maintains their independence and autonomy. To illustrate its organization's independence, the Bozeman Tea Party adopted the Tea Party Declaration of Independence which affirms its independence from all political parties and organizations but pledges to work with those who support its common principles of limited government, financial accountability and free markets.
"Individuals are free to run for any political office or support any candidate. And each Tea Party operates independently of the other," said Kriegel. "At this time, no candidate for Montana GOP Chairman has contacted us for support nor have we offered or are planning to provide any support."
