Volunteers Needed
Comemorating the First-Ever Boston Tea Party of December 16, 1773
This time we won't dump tea; we'll dump local produce[1]-
to the staffs of Senators Baucus and Tester.
Bring some produce to the event.
Why "dump" produce?
We won't actually dump produce.
We'll present it to the Senate staff and then donate it to the Food Bank.
The point we're making is practical as well as symbolic. We want our local producers to be able to provide for the needs of our community now and in the future free from government over-regulation and especially if there is a disruption in food distribution. We don't need more FDA, EPA and DHS inspectors checking on small and local producers.
It's also symbolic of our frustration with a whole litany of bad bills being pushed through this lame duck session including:
- the Bush-era Tax Cuts/Stimmulus II bill,
- the DREAM Act/Amnesty bill, the new START Treaty,
- the Land Grab bill now part of the Omnibus Bill
- and the Food Modernization Safety Act added on to House Continuing Resolution (read how Pelosi manipulated that vote
- the START Treaty with Russia
WHEN: Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 3:00 PM
WHERE: Gallatin County Court House (Main Street corner of 3rd)
We'll go to Senator Baucus' office and meet with his and Sen Tester's staff there.
WHY: To protect our food supply, our local farmer's and our rights to grow and sell food
WHO: You! People of all political persuasions concerned about the pending big-government, big Agri-business takeover of our food supply
HOW: After brief presentations at the Court House, we'll walk to Senator Baucus' office and meet with Senate staff in small groups of 3 or so.
Download event poster, print out/e-mail and disseminate.
[1] The Bozeman Tea Party engages in civil protest. The throwing of food will be prohibited.
