This time we won't dump tea; we'll dump local produce[1]-

at the offices of Senators Baucus and Tester.

We'll tell them to vote no to Monsanto's Food Takeover Act S. 510,

deceptively called the Food Modernization and Safety Act!

Save our local farmers and backyard gardeners from the big government,

big agri-business takeover!

WHEN:         Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 3:00 PM

WHERE:       Gallatin County Court House (Main Street corner of 3rd)

WHY:             To protect our food supply, our local farmer's and our rights to grow and sell food
WHO:             You! People of all political persuasions concerned about the pending big-government, big Agri-business takeover of our food supply

FACTS:  The Food Modernization Act will provide $1.5 billion to the FDA to hire more regulators and will result in the collaboration of the EPA, FDA and Homeland Security to police our food supply.  Language requiring the bill's compliance with the UN's World Trade Organization Treaty and Codex Alimentarius (and not the U.S. Constitution) has thankfully been removed but you never know until you read the final bill.   It will place a huge burden on small farmers who will have to file an exemption from the additional federal regulations.  The bill is being promoted by Monsanto, the agri-business giant who created genetically-modified seeds.  Produce grown from these seeds are sterile, meaning you must buy additional seeds from Monsanto. Called "Frankenfoods" by the Organic Consumers Association, foods grown from these seeds are dangerous to health.  Cross-pollination of Monsanto seeds with heirloom seeds will make your produce sterile.  George Soros Hedge Fund, according to a New York Times report, purchased 2.8 million shares of Monsanto this last quarter in anticipation of the Food Modernization Act being passed.

Kill the Bill, S. 510 Food Modernization Safety Act is Back in the Senate
Citizens For Health reports the following update as of 2:30 PM today.

"The House lame-duck leadership amended the "Continuing Resolution" Funding Bill - intended to keep the federal government running for another year - to include the language from S. 510, the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act. Unfortunately the House rushed to action Wednesday and passed it, sending it along to the Senate. Further action could happen as soon as today, Thursday, December 9th.

It is quite unusual to attach such an initiative to a bill authorizing continued government funding and operations.

And so, back to the Senate we go. Make no mistake - your efforts are having an impact, and we can't give up now! The House vote was very close: 212 to 205. This is a reflection of how your thousands of messages have helped a significant number of legislators stand firm in the face of pressure from big Agribusiness.

We have to keep holding their feet to the fire and stop this dangerous policy from becoming law. The
Senate can still strip S. 510 from the Continuing Resolution before passing it. Congress needs to recognize that:

--Combining a controversial regulatory bill with the Continuing Resolution to fund government operations is inappropriate at best, and at worst, shameful.

--It is even more disturbing that this has been done in spite of thousands and thousands of voters who have made it clear they believe that the federal government is too big and must stop over-regulating.

--S. 510 must be stripped from the Continuing Resolution so that Congress can decide to continue funding at a certain level without muddying the process with extraneous matters.

--We will be monitoring the Senate and expect them to act from principle and not the language from S. 510.

Please take a moment now and help us kill S. 510 once and for all."

The Bozeman Tea Party urges you to do the following NOW!

Action Items:

1.     attend our Freedom Rally on December 16, 2010 and commemorate the first ever Tea Party, whether we defeat this bill or not.

2.     Consider holding a Freedom Rally in your area.

3.     Call your Senators at 202-224-3121 now (Capitol Switchboard) and tell him/her to vote no to strip the Food Safety Modernization Act added as an amendment to the Continuing Resolution.

4.  While you're with them, tell them to vote no on the Dream Act, yes on extending the Bush-ear tax cuts for everyone,  and no  (or nyet) to the new START Treaty with Russia which will share our Anti-Ballistic Missile technology with Russia and whatever other legislation you oppose during this lame-duck, "goose on steroids" Congressional session.
