Hear comments from honorary chair, Russ Morton, namesake of his grandfather, Rusty Russell, who formed and coached the legendary high school football team at the Fort Worth (TX) Masonic Home for Orphans known as "the Mighty Mites," that captured both championships and the hearts of a depression-era America in the late 1920s and '30s. Their story, "Twelve Mighty Orphans: The Inspiring True Story of the Mighty Mites Who Ruled Texas Football," told in the best-selling book by Jim Dent, is the basis of the a film scheduled for production by Presidio Pictures in 2012.
More than 6,000 children are abused in Tarrant County each year, more than all but one other Texas county. This year's event is an opportunity to learn more about the issues related to child abuse and neglect and what our community is doing to help. No ask for donations will be made at this event.
