Family/Youth Opportunities...
Winter Break Camps for kids age 5 to 12 are offered at Hugh Smith Recreation Center, scheduled to run from 6:30am to 6:30pm. Camps include games, crafts and activities. Camp fees range from $90-$135 per week, with a discount if you register for three weeks. Call 817-459-5474 or visit naturallyfun.org for more information.
Registration for swimming lessons for the Spring Session are available now. The City of Arlington Aquatics offers quality instruction year round, at various times, for all ages. Visit naturallyfun.org for more information.

Free toilets are STILL available through water conservation program. Arlington encourages homeowners to replace older model toilets. Residents with homes built before 1992 that still have original toilets can qualify for up to two toilets per home. The Ride2Work Program provides transportation for employment-related activities! This program is open to low- and moderate-income Arlington residents for: jobs; job training; job interviews; educational resources; and childcare. To read the eligibility requirements, click here. In November, almost 200,000 kids in Tarrant County had Medicaid or CHIP coverage: more than ever before. Enrollment for these programs in Tarrant County is up 10% over the last year. Statewide, enrollment also increased.

January 9 is the deadline for online application submission for an Arlington Alliance for Youth Small Grant. Organizations with proposed projects centered on academic or life skills, community service, or even semester of service, are encouraged to apply for grants of up to $300. Applications can be submitted electronically by visiting www.arlingtonalliance4youth and going to the Small Grants section.

Recent federal report on child maltreatment probably reflects budget cuts, not less child abuse. Budget cuts are forcing state agencies to selectively spend their limited resources on fewer cases.
