Congratulations on the beginning of a new school year. The East Arlington Family Support Center is excited to continue partnering with you to ensure that students and parents have access to the great services available to improve their families. As a reminder, our program is available to provide a variety of services to your families, including Family Health Workshops; Parenting Skills Classes; Information, Referral and Advocacy; Intensive Case Management; Support Groups; Support for Health Insurance and Medical Services; and more!

Family/Youth Opportunities...
 

Our Military Kids wants to help your family. If you have a child ages 3 to 18 whose parent is currently deployed overseas with the National Guard or Reserves, your child is eligible for a grant. The grants, which can be up to $500, will pay for up to six months of an extracurricular activity of your choice. Read more...

Community Events and Resources 

September marks the 10-year anniversary of 9/11. The Tarrant County Office of Emergency Management has joined the Ready Campaign, founded after 9/11 to increase preparedness throughout all communities in the U.S., and taking an active role in helping Tarrant County prepare for emergencies. For information on creating a supply kit and writing a plan, see the attached Family Emergency Plan template and Emergency Supply Kit checklist, and for more free resources and information visit Ready.gov. 

The Ride2Work Program provides transportation for employment-related activities! This program is open to low- and moderate-income Arlington residents for: jobs; job training; job interviews; educational resources; and childcare. To read the eligibility requirements, click here. YMCA...Come and join The 3rd Annual YMCA of Arlington Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday, September 14 from 7am to 9am at 2200 South Davis, Arlington, 76013. Arlington Bus service will be ending...The Arlington City Council has decided to end Arlington's commuter bus service to downtown Fort Worth on September 30th because of low ridership and lack of public funding. However though despite the end of Arlington Bus service, the Ride To Work Program still remains and Handitran for the economic disadvantage, the elderly and the disabled in Arlington who need public transportation. Tarrant County - Careity Day, Monday, September 12.  Women, age 40 over. Need a mammogram and don't have insurance or a way to pay for it? Careity Foundation is hosting its 3rd annual Careity Day mammogram drive. Any participant diagnosed with cancer from this screening on Monday, September 12, will also receive treatment from biopsy to chemotherapy at no cost to the patient. Volunteer and Advocacy Opportunities...

Project R.E.A.C.H...In efforts to raise money to continue the Feeding Frenzy at Sam Houston High School, as well as support other youth programs in East Arlington, we are hosting our monthly Popcorn Popping.  These events are held on the 1st floor of the Sub Courthouse at 700 E. Abrams.  We need 3 people per afternoon shift Aug. 31, Sept. 1 & 30, Oct. 3 & 31, Nov. 1 and Dec. 1 from (12:45PM-4:00PM). The AISD is accepting applications for the 2011-2012 class of AISD Insider. This program was created to give a group of parents and community members an in-depth look at the district. Once selected to the program, participants will learn more about the district, including programs, services, and our current challenges and opportunities at monthly meetings. At the conclusion of the program, graduates will become leaders and advocates for the AISD. Click here for additional information and the application.
