The Back 2 School Roundup still has vouchers to give out and is accepting applications 8am - 4pm at the Resource Connection Welcome Center, 1100 Circle Drive, Fort Worth Texas 76119 until Aug. 5, 2011. If you know of those who have children from the ages of 4-18, who reside in Tarrant County and meet the 2011 Federal Poverty Income Guidelines and need school supplies please let them know. Family/Youth Opportunities...
One more free summer camp before school starts! Social Leadership Camp is from August 8 - August 11, 9am to 4pm for youth, ages 14-17. This fun, four-day camp helps youth develop skills to become leaders in their schools and communities. This unique opportunity will increase their awareness of social issues such as homelessness, child abuse, child safety and volunteerism. Our Military Kids wants to help your family. If you have a child ages 3 to 18 whose parent is currently deployed overseas with the National Guard or Reserves, your child is eligible for a grant. The grants, which can be up to $500, will pay for up to six months of an extracurricular activity of your choice. Read more...

Arlington ISD is offering a Summer Feeding Program for 2011. Any child 1-18 can receive a free meal (breakfast and/or lunch) daily at certain sites. No registration or I.D. is needed. Food must be eaten onsite. This program is for children only. Click here for a list of sites and serving times.

 

The McKinney Housing Authority will accept applications for the Public Housing waiting list on June 1, 2011 thru August 31, 2011 for individuals and/or families that are eligible for one and three bedroom apartments. Read more...

Many Texas families are making arrangements for day care for their preschoolers as the new school year approaches. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) urges parents to do their homework carefully and always choose regulated day care. While illegal day care may seem attractive - it may be cheap or convenient - without regulation there are no checks and balances to protect children. Read more...

The Ride2Work Program provides transportation for employment-related activities! This program is open to low- and moderate-income Arlington residents for: jobs; job training; job interviews; educational resources; and childcare. To read the eligibility requirements, click here. The Arlington Housing Authority announces that its Homeless Prevention Program has funds available. The Homeless Prevention Program is designed to assist low-income households pay past due rent or utilities in the event of unforeseen hardship or extenuating circumstances beyond their control in the last 30 days. The program will pay up to three months rent or utilities to the landlord or utility company to prevent a pending eviction or disconnection of utilities. Click here for a flyer. Health/Wellness Opportunities...

The 13th Annual Hispanic Wellness Fair will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 9:00am to 2:00pm at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth. The Fair will offer free medical screenings and free health education. For more information, click here.

What is PCIP and Texas CHAP? The Texas Consumer Health Assistance Program, or CHAP, helps people without health coverage at a time when they need it the most. To be eligible, you must: (a) Have been uninsured for at least six months; (b) Have a pre-existing condition; (c) Have previously been denied coverage; (d) Are U.S. citizens or residing legally in the U.S; and (e) Can pay a reduced, monthly premium for enrollment.
