Community Events and Resources 

TarrantCares.org, a new website offering free information about community services, health issues and other topics, went online March 30 with the help of United Way's 2-1-1 information and referral service.

The Ride2Work Program provides transportation for employment-related activities! This program is open to low- and moderate-income Arlington residents for: jobs; job training; job interviews; educational resources; and childcare. To read the eligibility requirements, click here. Whether It's Cold or Hot Outside - Weatherization Program Helps! Funding is still Available for More Qualified Arlington Homeowners. To apply for weatherization assistance, you must complete an application and include verification of income for all household members. Read more... 

 

The Arlington Housing Authority announces that its Homeless Prevention Program has funds available. The Homeless Prevention Program is designed to assist low-income households pay past due rent or utilities in the event of unforeseen hardship or extenuating circusmtances beyond their control in the last 30 days. The program will pay up to three months rent or utilities to the landlord or utility company to prevent a pending eviction or disconnection of utilities. Click here for a flyer. Family/Youth Opportunities...

You are invited to the MALE EXPO-FORT WORTH: Taking it to the Next Level, on SATURDAY MAY 21, 2011 from 9am-2:30pm at TCC-- Trinity River Campus-Fort Worth. FREE!!! Celebrate the outdoors on National Trails Day, June 4. The purpose is to promote healthy living and mental well being, protect green spaces, educate the community on the importance of trails and instill excitement for the outdoors. Have you registered for summer swim lessons? Swim lessons are offered at Hugh Smith Indoor Pool throughout the year. The City of Arlington also offers an Outdoor Learn to Swim Program at other locations. Prostate  Cancer  incidence  rates  are  up  among  American  men. A free prostate cancer screening will be offered on June 4, 2011 from 8:00am to 12:00pm at the Texas Oncology Center on 515 W. Mayfield Rd, Suite 101, Arlington, 76014. For more information click here.

 

First Lady Michelle Obama inspired the national movement and is asking every mayor in the country to join her Let's Move campaign for a holistic approach to fighting childhood obesity. New Beginnings Christian Academy (NBCA) has opened a new Arlington office and is accepting referrals. NBCA offers: (1) Classes are no larger than 10 students; (2) The entire program can be delivered in Spanish or English. (3) The cost ranges from $275-$375 (not including $25 tutoring session). (4) Much of the work is available in a work-at-home format. (5) Since 2005, New Beginnings Christian Academy has graduated over 8,000. Housing Opportunities of Fort Worth, Inc. (HOFW) works with people who are delinquent on home mortgages through in-depth, one-on-one counseling. It is the oldest HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agency in TarrantCounty. There are no charges or income or geographic qualifications for HOFW's services. The counselor will assist homeowners understand the loan modification process along with other options and to prepare the needed paperwork. When required, the HOFW counselor will contact the mortgage servicer on the homeowner's behalf. Helping with recovery budgets, accessing community resources, and foreclosure prevention are all part of HOFW's services. Please contact Maria Santamaria at 817-923-9192 for more information.    

The Arlington Job Networking Community offers weekly meetings for job seekers who are college graduates, unemployed, or under-employed.  Meetings are held every week on Monday, 9am to 11am at the Lighthouse Student Center at the First Baptist Church of Arlington, located at 300 South Center Street, Arlington, 76010. Provider Opportunities...

The North Texas Anti-Trafficking Team is offering a free one-day training opportunity on June 24, 2011 in Fort Worth, Texas from 8:30am to 5:15pm. This training is designed for law enforcement, social service providers and medical professionals to identify the acute psychosocial and psychological needs of highly traumatized victims, in particular trafficking victims, and to help these professionals meet those needs. The City of Arlington has been recognized again this year by the State of Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts for meeting the highest standards in financial reporting and transparency by making financial documents readily available to the public.
