UPCOMING ACTIVITIES!

03-05-11 (Saturday): Padrinos y Madrinas, a support group for Spanish-speaking parents meets the first Saturday of each month. Includes leadership and educational opportunities. Click here.
 
03-12-11 (Saturday): Participant Council, a leadership and support group for English-speaking parents meets the second Saturday of each month. Click here.
 
03-14-11 (Monday): Families First, a parenting support program, begins. This session will be held in Spanish. Registration is now open! Click here.

03-19-11 (Saturday): Parent Leadership Training Institute. An all-day seminar for parents to focus on leadership skills, receive information on important topics and focus on parent engagement. Click here.

Community Events and Resources 

 A new Arlington program is offering rides to low-and-moderate-income residents to help with jobs and work-related activities. Through the Ride2Work Program, participants can schedule rides to their jobs, work-related activities such as job training or interviews, or childcare anywhere in Arlington, Hurst, Euless or Bedford for $2 each way. Financial Education classes are available throughout Tarrant County! Come learn the things they never taught you in school--budgeting, taxes and record keeping, credit, financial institutions, savings and insurance. This class is offered by Catholic Charities. Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington- Mavericks Basketball League. Registration for the 2011 Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington- Mavericks Basketball League  is now available at each of our 5 locations, or you can visit us online at www.bgcarlington.org. All youth (male & female) in grades 1st-6th are encouraged to come out and register for the 2011 season. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington Basketball Season runs from Saturday March 26- Saturday May 21. Early Registration is December 6th- February 18th. Late registration is February 21st- March 4th.

The Multicultural Alliance is currently accepting applications for Camp CommUNITY 2011 (formerly Anytown Texas) - its 30th year! Health/Wellness Opportunities...

Families with children with disabilities can get additional help with medical bills. The state has launched a new program this month that will help pay medical bills for children with disabilities.  It helps families who need health insurance, but make too much money to get Medicaid. Families "buy in" to Medicaid by making a monthly payment (premium). For more information, click here.

Educational Opportunities...

English and U.S. Citizenship classes are now available! Classes are 8 weeks long, and are available for people who speak all levels of English. Call (817)289-2838 to register. Click here for a flyer.

 

Prepare for the Citizenship Test with Arlington Reads for FREE. Classes take place at the East Branch Library, 1624 New York Ave, 76010. Students may attend class on either Tuesday (10am-11am) or Thursday (6pm-7pm). The class and materials are FREE. If interested, please register with an Arlington Reads Coordinator by calling 817-275-3321.

 

The Arlington Reads program is offering FREE English classes for adults. Classes are for anyone over the age of 18 interested in learning English for the first time or improving the English they already know. Orientations last 30 minutes, and dates are as follows: February 23 (10:30am); March 4 (3:30pm); March 17 (7:00pm); and March 29 (1:00pm). Job/Training Opportunities...

The Arlington Job Fair will have employers on-site and is being held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at Grace Community Church, 801 W Bardin Rd, Arlington, 76017. Click here for a flyer.

Goodwill Industries will be hosting the Career Training Provider Fair on February 25th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at their location on 4005 Campus Dr. Fort Worth, TX 76119. Many local trade and technical schools as well as nonprofit agencies will be there to educate attendees about community resources and training opportunities. Click here for a flyer.

The Arlington Job Networking Community offers weekly meetings for job seekers who are college graduates, unemployed, or under-employed.  Meetings are held every week on Monday, 9am to 11am at the Lighthouse Student Center at the First Baptist Church of Arlington, located at 300 South Center Street, Arlington, 76010. Provider Opportunities...

The Center for Public Policy Priorities (CPPP) has released two new reports focusing on children: the 18th annual Texas KIDS COUNT data book, The State of Texas Children 2011 and the Proposed Texas Children's Budget for 2012-2013.  Findings from the reports show key indicators of children's well-being have fallen, while in the state's draft budget,  investments in children would be down by 13 percent.
