READING NUTRITION LABELS

Saturday, October 23: 11am - 12:30pm Available in English and Spanish

What does all that information on reading labels really mean? How can I use reading labels to make smart decisions to keep my family healthy? Through this fun, free and interactive presentation, come learn about how to lead a healthier life. Presentation offered by Aetna Community Outreach. CALL NOW TO REGISTER!

 

New Support Group Forming...Do you know any children being raised by grandparents, relatives, or friends? The East Arlington Family Support Center is reaching out to all kinship families that are interested in coming together to support each other. We will offer a safe and comfortable environment, food, childcare, speakers, classes, and many other resources. Family/Youth Opportunities...

Agape Christian Fellowship invites everybody to their Fall Harvest Celebration. This takes place at 2350 E. Mayfield Rd., Arlington, TX 76014 on October 31, 2010 from 12pm to 4pm. Bring the kids for games, food, and lots of fun.

 

Aldersgate Methodist Church invites you to a Pumpkinfest on Saturday, October 30 from 4pm to 6pm. This celebration takes place at 2201 E Park Row Dr., Arlington, 76010. Games, bingo, sno-cones, hot dogs, prizes, a bounce house, and much more is available, all free.

 

Real Talk for Real Girls: A Summit for Moms and Daughters. The March of Dimes and Girls Inc. of Tarrant County are excited to host a mother/daughter summit to help teach better communication skills between moms and daughters. This event is free and open to girls ages 10 to 18. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Register by October 29 by filling out this form

 

The YMCA of Arlington invites you to Fall Kidsfest, a fun and free event with performances, cooking demonstrations, information, games, and more. The celebration is on October 23 from 6:30pm to 9pm at the Central Branch. Flyers are English and Spanish.


The East Arlington Branch Library invites the whole family to a Courtyard Celebration celebrating the cultural diversity of the community. This free event takes place on October 23, 6pm to 8pm at the East Arlington Branch Library.

Health Opportunities...
The Arlington Public Library is hosting a Low Vision Fair to increase awareness of the resources available to those with low to no vision. The Fair takes place on October 23, 11am to 3pm in the Central Library Community Room. Exhibitors will include vendors of assistive technologies that can empower the visually impaired as well as various organizations that can offer assistance to those with low/no vision. The fair is free and open to the public. For more information, call 817-459-6900.

Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital invites you to Fiesta Health, a free health screening event. The event takes place on Saturday, November 6, 2010 from 8:00am to 12:00pm at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital, 800 West Randol Mill Rd. Includes diabetes screening, blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, and much more. Click here for flyers in English or Spanish.

Volunteer Opportunities...

The Parkview Neighborhood is looking for able-bodied men, women, teens who would like to join their Helping Hands Team. This is a community service team to help a neighbor who needs a little assistance in cleaning-up outdoors, edging, mowing, or limb trimming.  This would be once a month project where Team members get together on Saturday morning and contribute their time and talents to help out a friend and neighbor.  We have several requests in our HHT box of requests at the present time.  Please call and add your name to the list of available Team members. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) provides free tax preparation and individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINS) for the working poor. VITA focuses on maximizing the Earned Income Tax Credits and other deductions available to these families. Volunteers are needed January 15 through April 15. Click here for more information.

The Annual MLK Art and Essay Competition is Announced. The Arlington Martin Luther King Jr. Committee is now accepting entries for the 2011 "Sharing the Dream" Student Art and Essay Competitions. The entry deadline is 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2010. Click here for more information.
