Welcome from Aleksandra .

Sometimes timing is everything. How many times do we receive corrections about timing in dance class? ("Faster!" "Slower!" "You're behind the beat!") At least a couple dozen times per class on a good day...
In my photo this month, I'm standing in the empty foyer of the Civic Opera House on Lyric Opera of Chicago's opening night, all dressed up for the performance of Macbeth I'd looked forward to from the moment I ordered season tickets, along with the gala after-party.
Why did I have the chance to enjoy that beautiful foyer without a crowd of other opera-goers? Well, after getting dressed and ready in plenty of time for this glamorous evening, I had been delayed by a car accident on Lake Shore Drive. Needless to say, the Lyric Opera doesn't allow late seating.
In many situations, being just one minute late makes a big difference. It could mean negotiating a later flight or, in this case, watching the first act of a much-anticipated performance from the lobby TV. In these situations, just like in music or dance, timing is essential.
But, do we always have to be on time with actions, decisions and implementation of ideas and goals? What does timing really mean in our lives? As my Harvard professors always said, "It depends..." (By the end of the first week of classes we learned how to answer any of their questions with that same phrase!)
I believe that the universe conspires to time certain things in our lives to bring about the most harmonious and dynamic developments. Perhaps, sometimes, what seems like a missed opportunity could just be destiny giving us more time. Maybe a better opportunity is just around the corner.
In 2002, when I still lived in Michigan and Russian Pointe was only a few years old, I planned a move to Chicago for graduate school. A number of changes made me cancel those plans, which was disappointing at the time. Read more

Joffrey Ballet Donation

Russian Pointe has donated 250 pointe shoes to the Joffrey Auxiliary Board of The Joffrey Ballet for their "Pointe of Departure" fundraising event.
The shoes will be sent to 250 artists around the country, who will create works of art for auction on December 9 at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago. The auction will include exhibition of the artwork along with a wine and cheese reception, which is expected to be attended by several hundred guests, including Joffrey dancers.
The Auxiliary Board is a group of young professionals who support The Joffrey through fundraising and volunteering. Russian Pointe President Aleksandra Efimova is a member of the Board.

Russian Pointe on the road .
Fitting specialist Ali Aguilar conducted close to 40 fittings at Diva Dancewear's Trunk Show Seminar on September 24-25. "It was homecoming weekend, so there were quite a few walk-ins in addition to the scheduled fittings," Ali reports. Dancers were a mix of Russian Pointe wearers and those new to our shoes. For those who already wore Russian Pointes, Ali was pleased to see that their initial fits looked correct. She also enjoyed getting a chance to meet several area teachers for an informal Q&A about Russian Pointe, and the very pretty store window display: a border of RP mini-pointes and tulle! Chicago Sister Cities International Festival .
Aleksandra Efimova once again participated in the International Festival hosted by Chicago Sister Cities International Program on August 23-27. For five days, the fifth annual festival, which helped mark the 50th anniversary of Chicago Sister Cities International, turned Millennium Park's South Promenade into an international village of food, music, dance and merchants. All 28 of Chicago's Sister Cities were represented, showcasing the city's diversity and intern ational spirit. This year's festival also included collaboration with the Share Your Soles Foundation's city-wide shoe drive. Aleksandra was appointed Co-chair of the Moscow Committee of Chicago Sister Cities earlier this year. Photo: Aleksandra Efimova with Laura Sekhar, in traditional costume.
