River North Sneak Peek
Ali Aguilar, Juneanne Hardy and Elizaveta Efimova, with Elizaveta's daughter Klava, attended River North Chicago's Sneak Peek studio presentation on August 19, at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts. River North performed the company's new piece by Sidra Bell, artistic director of Sidra Bell Dance New York. Elizaveta calls the new piece, which will premiere in November, "edgy" and "magnificent." She also notes that three-year-old Klava is one of the company's biggest fans! Photo: Juneanne and Ali with River North's Ricky Ruiz

Soothe sore muscles...
Soothe your hardworking muscles after summer intensives, or after your first days getting back into shape following a few weeks away from class! Here at Russian Pointe, we're excited about these simple yet strikingly effective massage aids from OPTP. "Use of either the Travel Stick or the Pinky Ball can result in less muscle tightness, less soreness and even enhanced flexibility!" says Dustin Crumbaugh.
The Travel Stick, pictured above, is sized to fit into a dance bag or luggage, for massage and manipulation of fatigued soft tissues and painful trigger points.
The Super Pinky Ball, below, facilitates a great foot self-massage, and also helps with hand, leg and body tension. Excellent for plantar fasciitis prevention and relief, the firm latex ball is super-easy to carry along wherever you go!

Welcome from Aleksandra .

Moscow. Red Square. St. Basil's Cathedral. When I first
saw these pictures next to each other, I didn't notice anything striking. Only later
did I realize that they were taken one year apart, and consider the differences
between the two years, the two days, the two photos.
Usually, in the first week of August as my birthday
approaches I'm thinking about the past year and what lies ahead, as I've
written in past newsletters. I love the month and, being a true Leo, I never
underplay the excitement of a birthday! This year, that first week of
August was quite different. This year, my visit to Moscow coincided with
the horrific fires surrounding the city, which were major news around the world. The
picture you are looking at was taken on the only day during my visit that the
Cathedral was clearly visible from even a few meters away, due to the fires and
smoke that covered the city.
Moscow was already suffering from a heat wave. The extreme
heat of over 100ºF lasted longer than ever recorded, in a city where air conditioning
is a pure luxury, rarely available. Then, as devastating fires surrounded the
city, it became shrouded in smoke. Each morning that I was there, I woke up
with the windows shut tight against the choking odor of burning turf, which
smelled like a mixture of poison and dirt.
Despite many leaving the city, Moscow still lived... Read more

Russian Pointe on the road
Fitting specialists were on the road in August, traveling to Michigan, California, Kentucky and Illinois to provide staff training and customer education and to fit dancers from first-time pointe wearers to professional ballerinas!
Ali Aguilar presented Trunk Show Seminars in August at Toe to Toe Dance Wear in Flint, MI and Relevé Dance-Wear Co. in Elk Grove, CA. At Toe to Toe, Ali offered employee training before the event, and then provided hands-on guidance during customer fittings. "Manager Christina Stefanic hoped to give employees a greater, more in-depth understanding of the fitting process," Ali explains, adding, "They were really excited to learn everything they could." At Relevé, owners Jack and Tamara Shewmaker had gone all out to make it a special day, Ali reports. "Tamara transformed the store into Russian Pointe Land!" Decorations included pink and black balloons and tutus, and first-time pointe buyers - including the Shewmakers' daughter - received flowers. At both trunk shows, the retailers also gave Russian Pointe gifts such as pens, posters and stickers. Photo: Ali with Tamara Shewmaker
Juneanne Hardy joined Kinney Dancewear in Louisville, KY to fit all the dancers from Louisville Ballet. The ballet company had requested the fittings, because of Russian Pointe's consistent quality and dependable ordering process. Owners Jeff and Nannette Kinney, who also have stores in Indianapolis and Noblesville, IN, supplied about half of the necessary stock, while Juneanne brought the rest. Trunk show coordinator Stephanie Unger called the fittings "a good investment for both Russian Pointe and Kinney Dancewear, and a kind of magical cooperative experience."
Dustin Crumbaugh drove to Downers Grove, IL for training and fittings at Dancin' 1 Ltd.'s new location. With solid pointe clientele at her original location in New Lenox, owner Darlene Barajaz used Dustin's visit as an opportunity to increase pointe awareness at the new store and to give the staff additional training in fitting Russian Pointes (including hands-on demonstration with a walk-in customer). Dustin also got a chance to compare fitting strategies while chatting with Darlene, and was pleased to find that "many of the practices I preach were already part of her fittings."
