Greetings from Aleksandra

Last week, I had the great pleasure of attending Russian American Foundation's opening gala for the 8th annual Russian Heritage Festival in New York City. Over 300 Russian-speakers attended the gala, held in a beautiful room of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mayor Bloomberg's speech highlighted the importance of preserving the heritage of Americans from throughout the world, the great contribution of immigrant culture to our country, and the outstanding role RAF plays in this preservation and contribution. He also mentioned that his own grandparents came from Russia! It was an exquisite evening, with performers from former Soviet republics and a fashion show, as well as American dancers who are attending the Bolshoi Academy.
With the Bolshoi Academy in Moscow, RAF presents the annual Bolshoi Academy Summer Intensive in New York and Connecticut, for which Russian Pointe is Sponsor and Official Shoe. In July, our fitting specialists will travel to the Intensive's two locations in Connecticut and New York, providing individual fittings for the participants. (Read more in the articles below.)
As I watched the Bolshoi Academy dancers at the gala, and anticipated our presence at the Intensive, I had a chance to contemplate the pride I feel whenever I meet "our" dancers, or see them perform.
Personal fittings, here at Russian Pointe Dance Boutique and at trunk shows throughout North America, are a continuing pleasure for me and my staff. We enjoy interacting directly with the dancers who wear our shoes, helping them solve fitting challenges and hearing their stories about how finding the perfect fit has affected their dancing. We are so proud of your accomplishments, from your first steps on pointe to your onstage triumphs!
We also feel great pride in our wonderful Authorized Retailers, whom we are delighted to meet on the road and here in Chicago at our Fitting Seminars. Your expertise and hard work on behalf of your dancers are irreplaceable.
Wishing you an exciting summer, full of new experiences and discoveries.

Spotlight: Summer Intensives
Who outside the world of dance can really understand the excitement and, yes, intensity of attending a summer dance program? Just the sheer number of hours spent dancing is an important step in our development, not to mention the spectacular teachers and potential for professional contacts.
This month, Russian Pointe staff members Stephanie Unger and Dustin Crumbaugh share their summer intensive experiences. Dustin heads to Canada for the three-week Springboard Danse Montreal this month. You can keep up with him on his blog throughout the program. Stephanie is staying local, attending a week each with The Seldoms and Thodos Dance Chicago. Injured last summer, she has an insightful perspective about preparing for a safe and productive summer experience.

Joffrey Academy dancer to attend Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow
Sarah Wiese, a 17-year-old Academy of Dance (official school of the Joffrey Ballet) dancer from St Charles, IL, has been selected to study for six weeks at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow. Sarah is one of ten U.S. dancers chosen for the first dance-related scholarships from the National Security Language Initiative, funded by the U.S. Department of State (Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs). In addition to dance, Sarah and the other dancers will study Russian language and culture during their stay in Moscow in July and August. Before heading to Moscow, they will attend the Bolshoi Ballet Academy summer intensive in New York. We are proud to say that Sarah is a customer here at Russian Pointe Dance Boutique, look forward to seeing her in New York this summer, and offer her our heartfelt congratulations!
