Aleksandra and Elizaveta Efimova had a wonderful time on January 27 at the Harris Theater, where Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo performed for one night only. Shopping, shopping, shopping... When we hear this word, we may think of endless racks of clothes or shoes, colorful bags filled with our purchases, and swiping the American Express card to pay for these material indulgences. But several days ago, I found myself in the middle of a vastly different shopping situation, with no dressing rooms or size options, no gift wrap or gift cards, no credit card receipts to sign.
In fact, I was at the expo of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference, which brings together an amazing international array of performers, presenters and managers, with executive directors of theaters and concert halls, shopping for their upcoming artistic seasons...

Focus:
Proper fit for pointe shoe longevity
 Replacing pointe shoes frequently can become frustrating, and unless you're in a company that pays for your shoes, it can get very expensive! With shoes made of natural, traditional materials, lifespan is necessarily limited. Most dancers know that keeping pointe shoes dry and un-squashed will make them last longer.

Teacher Seminar at Dancer's Pointe
 About 20 area dance teachers turned out for a special Russian Pointe seminar just for them, at Dancer's Pointe in Stow, OH on January 24. Fitting specialist Stephanie Unger gave a new presentation created just for teachers, and then conducted demonstration fittings with two local professional dancers. Owner Amy Bragg provided a delicious luncheon for the teachers, who also received goody bags.
Interestingly, the dancers who served as models had worn other brands before, but each decided to switch to Russian Pointe! "It was so great to hear the dancers speaking honestly to the teachers about why they were making that choice," Stephanie commented.

January Trunk Shows
 Russian Pointe gave Trunk Show Seminars in California, Alabama and Alberta, CN in January.
Fitting specialist and Boutique manager Ali Aguilar presented a Trunk Show at Ready Set Dance in Grande Prairie, Alberta, CN, hosted by owners Lynn McMurchy and Sheena Le Blanc. Ali gave several presentations, including a special teacher seminar and a "First Pointe" seminar for parents, with 102 in attendance! Ready Set Dance staff members assisted with personal fittings in conjunction with the seminars. "I was so impressed by the preparation Lynn had done, not only informing teachers and parents, but really going above and beyond in making this a special day for all the dancers who were present," says Ali, "and I was very pleased with the turnout - all of the staff's hard work really paid off!"
Owners Tamara and Jack Shewmaker scheduled their January 16 Trunk Show as an exciting part of the launch of their new store, Relevé Dance-Wear Co. in Elk Grove, CA. Fitting specialist Stephanie Unger gave the seminar and fittings, which introduced many Sacramento-area dancers to Russian Pointe. On January 30, Ali traveled to Montgomery, AL for a Trunk Show at Bou Cou, with Juneanne Nguyen to assist for the seminar and fittings. Like the Shewmakers, Bou Cou owner Candace Love was introducing many dancers to Russian Pointe for the first time, after recently expanding her boutique to carry dance supplies in response to the needs of local dancers and companies. The show was very productive, with dancers traveling up to several hours to attend.

 New at Russian Pointe Dance Boutique: Tune Up your Turnout by Deborah Vogel. The Boutique's Dustin Crumbaugh calls this book "a remarkably straightforward, no-nonsense approach to dancing safely and intelligently that gives the dancer the best possible tool: an educated, realistic awareness of his or her own body." He reports a positive change in his own technique after using Vogel's approach. The Boutique also carries Vogel's Analyzing Turnout and Ballwork: Releasing Muscular Tension.
