Greetings!

September is one of my favorite times of the year. The weather cools down, the trees start to change, and routine is re-established in our lives.

Many of us love this month, perhaps because of what has stayed with us all through the years--our childhood memories of extra-long summer months, our excitement about school starting and seeing our friends, and the feeling of being more grown up each year as we advanced through the grades.

In the spirit of starting a new school year, we will be introducing our latest project--Record Your Life. Capturing individual legacies on CD's, in e-book form or softcover is what we are focusing on this fall.

Presenting how to do this amassing of information yourself or having us do it for you will take place in local adult schools, senior centers, or any place people would like to learn more about the process. If you are interested in learning more, let us know (gail@coachability.com or edtopar@gmail.com). Read more below.

Happy September,

Gail and Ed

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH

I advise you to go on living solely to enrage those who are paying your annuities. It is the only pleasure I have left.
-Voltaire

OUR NEW VENTURE

OUR NEW VENTURE

We have taken the summer off from interviewing retirees and will start again next month. More significantly, we are embarking on an exciting venture outside the environs of the e-zine.

We believe that everyone's past consists of a rich tapestry of history, replete with stories, which like precious artifacts, reflect the person, their life, lessons, and special moments.

Our intent is to capture those moments in one of three ways: a 90-minute CD, an e-book, and/or a soft covered book-all resulting from a 90-minute interview which we conduct with pre-selected questions whose answers best reflect the person's life.

As Dr. James Birren, Ph.D., said in Psychology Today, "You understand your life better if you share it piece by piece with other people. Something happens during the telling that goes beyond what is achieved by the remembering alone. New experiences become reminders of feelings and events that we have set aside and thought we had forgotten--as each new memory builds on previous recollections."

This gift of memories is an extraordinary opportunity for you or a loved one to record your life story or a family member's life history and dreams--past and present--as a special gift for your family and for yourself. The result is not only greater self-understanding for each participant, but also a stronger bond among family members.

This fall we are going to be holding classes in local adult schools and senior centers to teach people how to do this on their own or have us do it for them.

We are really looking forward to this new segment of Retired-Next Phase, especially when we realize just how extraordinarily valuable this legacy is to family members and friends.

BOOK REVIEW -  DOING WHAT YOU LOVE, LOVING WHAT YOU DO

Robert Anthony's book
, Doing What You Love, Loving What You Do, is one of the most influential books in my library. It was well worth the time it took to type my underlines and notes. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Because of its length, only one part will be presented at a time. ENJOY!!

DOING WHAT YOU LOVE, LOVING WHAT YOU DO

DR. ROBERT ANTHONY

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO

Step #1:  Make up two lists of possible retirement career choices.  The first will be done on a totally conscious level. The second will consist of ideas that come to you more spontaneously. There will be a third list, which is actually a composite of the former two. A period of seven days should be devoted to each individual list.

Step #2:  Be eliminating all the less desirable choices on your final list, you will soon be able to determine the thing or things you would most like to do.

Step #3:  If your immediate financial obligations do not permit you to undertake your new life's work on a full-time basis, you should begin to work toward it in a way that at least allows you to become involved in some related field.

Step #4: Seek out the company of those who are already successful in the field you wish to enter. You could work for them or become affiliated with them through their clubs and organizations.

Step #5: Once you have begun, it is important to remind yourself that you are really working toward it.

Step #6: Design your master plan, what you ultimately desire in life!

Step #7: After you have completed your master plan, make up a second list of short- and long-term goals, those related to both personal and professional matters.

Step #8: Reward yourself for what you have accomplished.

Step #9: Keep working on your plan. Don't give up.

Step #10: Allow yourself the ultimate luxury of doing what you love and loving what you do!

NEXT MONTH:

THE PAST DOESN'T HAVE TO CONTROL YOUR FUTURE.

Two Ways to Find Your Passion

1. Be the expert you already are.

One of the most common barriers keeping people from making money from their passion, no matter where they are in life, is the belief that they don't know something well enough to get paid to teach it to someone else.

Believe it or not, you know more than you think. Being an expert is purely relative and based largely on perception.

The crazy thing is once you find something you're passionate about, you'll likely realize it's something you've been learning and improving upon for years and maybe even decades. You have more experience with your passion than likely 99% of those around you, simply because you love doing it.

Find what it is and find the people who desperately need your help. Combine the two and living off your passion starts to become a reality.

2. Do the impossible.

The most crucial ingredient to loving your work is to surround yourself with people already doing it. When you spend time with people living squarely in their dreams, your dream not only becomes possible, it becomes probable. That shift in psychology will change your world.

Sherlock and Watson are on a camping trip.

In the middle of the night Sherlock wakes Watson and says.."Watson, look up and tell me what you deduce."

Watson looks up and says..."Well Holmes, I'm impressed by the vastness of the universe and the countless stars and if I were to assume that out there are even a small number of planets, I would deduce that there would indeed be life out there somewhere."

"No Watson, you  idiot. Someone has stolen our tent."
