The colder weather of the winter season brings with it certain fish and seafood that can only be found this time of the year.  The cooler water temperatures provide fishermen with an opportunity to catch fresh smelts, squid, spearing and oysters.  Don't miss out on the opportunity to add these delicious items to your holiday menus.
La Vigilia
The Feast of Seven Fishes at Bralow's Fish
The origin of The Feast of Seven Fishes is a story that will slightly differ depending upon who you ask.  Some say it originates from Sicilian Italians and thier dependence on the Sea.  Since Catholics were not allowed to eat meat on Christmas Eve, Italians chose to create a meal of seafood.  The use of Seven Fishes symbolizes the importance of this holy number throughout scripture.  For example, there are Seven Holy Sacraments, Seven Deadly Sins, Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Mother, Seven vigils in the Roman Calendar, Seven Men from Florence that fasted and later became saints and the Seven Days of Creation.
However, no matter who you ask, The Feast of Seven Fishes means a family tradition that is sacred.  For the Bralow family it has meant over a century of serving the Italian American community.
As you begin preparing for your Christmas Eve meal, keep in mind, when it comes to seafood the choices at Bralow's are unlimited.  Here are just a few of the many fish and seafood options available for your feast:
