Tickled Pink

BarbiesAlong with hundreds of families passing through the GRACE Christmas Cottage this past December, Ms. Jones* wanted nothing more than to provide a nice Christmas for her three daughters. Though she is a single, working mom who struggles to make ends meet, Ms. Jones maintains an extremely tight budget throughout the year and does not regularly use GRACE's services. But Ms. Jones noticed that her daughters' few dolls were ragged and worn. Because she did not want to go into debt for Barbies, Ms. Jones finally called GRACE.

Ms. Jones timidly entered the GRACE Christmas Cottage, expecting to just pick up a few items and leave. Instead, a bubbly high school student immediately greeted her. Ms. Jones's high school age volunteer (who is a bit of a girly-girl) had signed up to work at the Christmas Cottage with her mom through the National Charity League. She jumped at the chance to find gifts for three little girly-girls.

The volunteer immediately went to pull every Barbie she could possibly find, especially ones that suited the girls ages three, seven and nine. Then she tracked down Barbie pajamas and even some Barbie-themed wrapped paper.

By the end of the trip, both Ms. Jones and her volunteer were in tears. Ms. Jones left armed with not just a Barbie doll but an entire Barbie-themed Christmas! Her volunteer had the great pleasure of giving toys she loved as a little girl. According to Seasonal Program Manager Lori Stevens, moments like this are what made the Christmas Cottage such a special experience for the clients AND for the volunteers.

Happy Birthday, GRACE!

Happy Birthday GRACEWe can now officially begin celebrating GRACE's 25th year of service to the Northeast Tarrant County community!

This weekend the American Bus Association will be the first to celebrate this important milestone by constructing a new roof for the Transitional Housing Nash complex and sending dozens of volunteers to Donation Station and GRACEful Buys. What a way to kick off the year!

Do you enjoy celebrating as much as we do? Please contact GRACE to discuss how your church, business or organization can help celebrate GRACE's 25th Birthday by crossing off another item on our Project Wish List. (Cake and ice cream optional.)

Fourth Quarter MVP
Mark Woolverton
Development Director Mark Woolverton

This person was nominated for the Fourth Quarter 2011 MVP Award for exceptional customer service, outstanding attitude and excellence in mission. Undoubtedly, this person has great skills and knowledge in his area with many years of experience. However, during his time at GRACE and specifically during the last quarter of 2011, this person's skills and endurance were definitely put to the test.

During this challenging, busy period, this person demonstrated exceptional customer service not just with our donors and folks in the community but with the entire GRACE Staff. His attitude was contagious and motivational, and he demonstrated and confirmed to all of us his depth of knowledge and positive attitude. He is a true believer in the GRACE Mission and works diligently to devise new fundraising strategies so that we can continue to serve those in need in the best way possible.
