Local Hero at GRACE

Ask anyone who has volunteered or worked at GRACE for any given period of time, and odds are, he or she knows Judy Hund. In fact, Judy's husband, GRACE Board President Tom Hund, frequently jokes that people at GRACE refer to him as Judy's Husband.

 Judy Hund

If we haven't made Judy blush yet, here are just a few of her accomplishments. Judy Hund has volunteered at GRACE since 1999, and she has been involved in numerous programs including the GRACE Christmas Cottage, Client Services, the GRACE Food Pantry, the GRACE Clinic, and the Capital Campaign Committee for the GRACE Clinic/Pantry building.

Judy has a warm, welcoming spirit, so she truly excels at working directly with clients. She works at least two days a week as a Client Services caseworker, and she considers herself on-call for days that Emergency Assistance is short-handed. She also works at the GRACE Food Pantry twice per week, and she is always ready to fill in when Pantry Manager Rusty Thigpen is short on volunteers.

Judy also provides food for Feed Our Kids during the summer, and she has worked daily as a Christmas Cottage volunteer in the past.

Because of all her contributions, Bank of America awarded Judy Hund its Local Heroes award and donated $5,000 to GRACE in honor of Judy. We are thrilled that Judy has received a well-deserved acknowledgment of her time and efforts, and we are even more impressed by her commitment to the clients who visit GRACE.

Firemen Step Up to Paint Pantry

DFW Police and Firefighters paint GRACE Pantry

On Friday November 4, Fire Chief Mike Foster led a team of DFW Airport's finest fire fighters and police in a project to paint the exterior of the GRACE Food Pantry.

"They had ladders and they weren't afraid to use them," said Volunteer Manager Jan Smith, who had been searching all year for a group with the right tools and equipment to handle the tallest elevations of the gables on the building.

Excellent work, ladies and gentlemen! The GRACE Pantry is looking bright and spiffy just in time for Thanksgiving.
