Clinic Clients Can See Clearly

Eye ExamThanks to a partnership with the Colleyville Lions Club,  GRACE clients received free optical screenings on Saturday, October 15 at Clearview Eyecare & Laser Center in Southlake.

Seventeen patients were examined and fitted with single vision lens and frames and sixteen patients needed bifocal lens and frames. One patient had a retinal abnormality. She has been sent for lab work, and Catholic Charities is collaborating with GRACE to provide her with treatment pending her diagnosis. Optical screenings are important in so many ways. Not only can clients see better; doctors can detect potentially life-threatening illnesses with routine eye exams.

We especially appreciate Dr. Kasey Holdridge, O.D., F.A.A.O. and her staff who provided both the Clinic and organization for all of the Lion members who assisted. Dr. Kasey is also a member of the Colleyville Lions Club and has hosted our Adult Vision Screening for the past six years.

Preschool GRACEful Buys customers Mia and Julian search for Veggie Tales with their nanny Jeannie

In case you haven't stopped by GRACEful Buys in a while, you can now visit an ever-growing Book Department in the back room. The back space is now organized with an efficient display of offerings, and customers can request book titles at the cashier location.

When a title is located, GRACEful Buys volunteers will call the customer directly. Additionally, a dedicated Book Department volunteer is now available to assist customers with book requests.

Volunteer staff at GRACEful Buys have spearheaded the effort to make the Book Department increasingly more efficient. Discarded or unwanted books have been sold or recycled, and a full inventory system is now in place.

Thank you to Mary Krantz, Tammy Dickstein, Tony Olsen, Lisa Keyes, Susan Colby, Sabre Hook, Ann Lee, and Sharon Cherry for plotting how to modernize the GRACEful Buys Book Department.
(Thanks to Paula Pafford for sharing about your awesome volunteers!)

Birthday Girls

(l-r) Daisy Grace Doddridge, Claire Gruman, Maggie Rice,

Pantry Manager Rusty Thigpen, Brooklyn Rice

Elementary students are already setting the pace for holiday giving this year. Daisy Grace Doddridge held a food drive at her birthday party, and Claire Gruman graciously donated her birthday presents to Donation Station so that another little girl can play with new toys. Maggie and Brooklyn Rice raised over $400 for the GRACE Food Pantry with a combined skate party for their birthdays. Way to go, girls!

Even if you don't have a birthday coming up, you too will have the opportunity to give of your time and resources to spread Christmas cheer among needy boys and girls this holiday season. Seasonal Program Manager Lori Stevens is actively enlisting volunteers young and old to help collect and distribute toys at this year's Shrek the Halls Christmas Cottage.

Here's how you can help:

  • Host a toy drive or wrapping paper drive at your church, school, or business.
  • Help set up the Christmas Cottage.
  • Help decorate the Christmas Cottage.
  • Work at the Christmas Cottage in December.

You don't even need to wait until December to get started. Lori needs young, strong volunteers to help load items at the site, 2845 Exchange Blvd. #300 in Southlake this Saturday.

Contact Lori Stevens directly at 817-488-7009 Ext. 329.
