Seasons of GRACE

Bonnie did not think of herself as the kind of person who would ever need help from a relief agency like GRACE. After all, she enjoyed a long, steady corporate career, and she considers herself solidly middle class. She even attended the GBonnieRACE Gala a few years ago to represent her employer and bid on auction items. When her son outgrew clothing, she dropped it off at Donation Station, and she tried her best to bring food for the GRACE Pantry whenever she had a few extra cans lying around. Bonnie felt blessed with her life in Grapevine, and she was happy to give of what she had.

That all changed in 2010. Faced with a layoff and no job prospects, Bonnie ran through her savings. Like so many in recent months, Bonnie found herself competing with 400 or more applicants for the same job. Bonnie was exhausted. She had reached her limit both physically and emotionally, but she needed to provide for her son.

GRACE provided Bonnie with exactly what she needed: money to pay her electric bill, school supplies and clothing, food from the pantry, and a few words of encouragement to keep searching for a position. With some of these "small things" crossed off her list, Bonnie could focus on finding a new job. Bonnie is thrilled to share that she just recently landed a new position with a great staff.

One lesson that Bonnie wants to share about her experience is that it is okay to ask for help when you really need it. We all need help to get through moments of desperation in our lives, and GRACE provided that boost for Bonnie. We must continue to be good stewards of our time and resources now more than ever, because even those who feel secure today may one day need help.

 Stocking up for the Holidays
Thanksgiving

We are rapidly approaching the holiday season! There are many ways to ensure that needy families in Northeast Tarrant County can celebrate the holidays this year.

If you're in the mood for a Halloween treat, visit the 2011 British Emporium Halloween Carshow and Haunted Tearoom on Sunday October 30th, 11am-3pm. Call 817.421.2311 to reserve a space for your British Car or Motorcycle.

Admission and participation is free. Donations of canned food will be accepted for GRACE Food Pantry. This year's theme for the tearoom is "Medieval Torture Chamber" complete with our Guest Executioner and Medieval Musicians. Bring your cameras! Cross Timbers Winery will provide food service and Texas wine.

The GRACE Food Pantry is also directly collecting turkeys and other items including evaporated milk, cooking oil, juice, instant potatoes, flour, sugar, stuffing, canned pumpkin, and other items. Visit the GRACE Blog for the complete list.

Finally, Lori Stevens is looking for a few good ogres to help with this year's Shrek the Halls Christmas Cottage. Please contact her at lstevens@gracegrapevine.org if you are interested in helping needy parents provide gifts for their children.

This past Saturday nearly 700 people celebrated the "Angels Among Us" event at the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas.

Good Shepherd Catholic Community received the 2011 Angel of GRACE Award for generosity of spirit and support for GRACE.

Our thanks go out to the 2011 Gala Co-Chairs Nicole and Mike Tesoriero and all of the community volunteers and supporters who helped make this Gala one of the best.

Congratulations to Sheri Brunson for winning a brand new Chevrolet Camaro at the 8th Annual GRACE Gala on October 15. Sheri owns Cinch Cleaners of Keller, Roanoke, and Justin. Her daughter was particularly excited to arrive at school in a shiny new convertible!

Many thanks to Ken Thompson at Classic Chevrolet for providing the vehicle, and thank you again to the many people who contributed to the success of the 2011 GRACE Gala!
