Discuss Poverty in Dallas
Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
A Message from First United Methodist Church, Grapevine:
First Methodist Church of Grapevine has adopted the concept of transforming individual Villages, focusing on Kenya, Costa Rica, and Grapevine. In these Villages, church members work on behalf of people who need hope, who demand justice, and who lack access to education and health both here and abroad.
The church would like to begin a dialogue within the Grapevine community to search for understanding and guidance as we deal with the problem of poverty in our midst. FUMC Grapevine has already partnered with many organizations in the community, including GRACE and our local city leaders. On Sunday, October 23, we will gather at 6:00 PM in the Founders Chapel of FUMC Grapevine at 422 Church Street, Grapevine. Bishop John Michael Lowry (Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church) and Mary Beth Garcia (legal counsel at Justice for Our Neighbors) will speak at the first of two sessions on Understanding Poverty. This first session this fall will focus on community resources and immigration issues. Bishop Lowry and Ms. Garcia will share their perspectives on poverty and related issues, followed by a time of sharing and discussion.
FUMC Grapevine and GRACE encourage members of the community, church members and leaders of any congregation, educators, social workers, city workers, and anyone who has a heart for helping those less fortunate in our community. Our hope is that you will be encouraged in your efforts, better identify with those whom you serve, and find support and resources for your work.
Please invite those within your circle of influence to come and be a part of this community effort on October 23rd at 6:00 PM. |
Fall Days of Caring

TXU Volunteers Collect Leaves at Transitional Housing |
A number of large corporate volunteer groups have worked at GRACE during late September and early October including FedEx, Southwest Airlines, BNSF, IBM, and TXU. We are proud to see more and more groups demonstrating their commitment to local projects. Corporate team leaders increasingly realize that the best kind of team-building creates a real impact in our community.
Each group arrived with around thirty people. Though the groups volunteered in the morning only, their work made a big difference at Donation Station, GRACEful Buys, GRACE Community Gardens, and Transitional Housing thanks to so many willing hands! Most volunteers enjoyed some sunshine and fresh air while working hard moving boxes and furniture outdoors and doing some good old fashioned yardwork at Transitional Housing.
Of course, the giving doesn't stop there--GRACE will receive needed computer and networking equipment from IBM thanks to so many accumulated volunteer hours.
Thanks again to our corporate groups for your tremendous help! |
Two More Days to Win a New Car!

The raffle winner does not need to be present at the GRACE Gala to win. All funds raised through the Gala and the Raffle will support GRACE's work in the Northeast Tarrant County community. |
