Mosaic of Founders Unveiled
On Wednesday, October 19, at 8:30 a.m., a RESTORED mosaic created in the early 1960's by Harding art students for Memphis Christian School (now Harding Academy) was unveiled. Former Harding president, Dr. Harold Bowie, spoke at the ceremony and former president, Mr. Tom Dickson, led the opening prayer. Mr. Mott Jones, who spear-headed this project, and Mr. Alan Pritchard unveiled the mosaic. Family, friends, and descendants of several of the founders, as well as alumni from this time period, attended the ceremony. A reception followed.
Mrs. Leah Scott, the school's first art teacher, designed the mosaic and supervised its assembly. It was intended to be the first of three panels. During the restoration, we were reminded that the original tiles had been hand-cut (probably by Mrs. Scott). The mosaic was truly a labor of love in both design and assembly. Leadership Panel Visits Harding White Station
The reality of our Harding vision, going back to the founders and looking forward to new leadership, was evident in the four students who presented themselves to our fifth and sixth graders at White Station.
Andrew Jordan, Caroline Chadwell, Seun Omutunde, and John Frizzell confirmed our purpose as they shared the development of their leadership roles since elementary years and the blending of their faith into daily interactions. The words "genuine," "willingness," "sacrifice," and "integrity" came up several times. The White Station students listened intently and you could see on their faces..."I want to be like them someday!"
The mark of success for this event: our students chose wisely as they selected this year's Student Ambassadors. Thank you to Linda Bateman, elementary guidance counselor, for coordinating this presentation.

Exploring Cordova - Success!
Thursday, October 20, was a very special afternoon for our EC3 through SK students and their families. They were able to meet the teachers at their next grade level and explore their future through fun, hands-on activities. They also visited special areas for art, music, library, and the computer lab in the elementary building. Plus, they were the very first guests in the new science lab in the Cordova Kindergarten building. These activities ran continuously from 3:30 until 6:30 so that parents and students could join the activities as their schedules permitted. The kids enjoyed having their passports stamped as they explored each activity.
Our future at Harding is
something to be very excited about!
