Seventh Grade Bible Ceremony

Melanie Semore, Jr./Sr. High supervisor said it best: "The Bible Ceremony continues to be a highlight of the year and one of the very best things we do. Well done, everyone! To God be the glory!" A lot preparation goes in to every detail of the presentation. The Bibles were presented by the seventh grade teachers. Mr. Justin Banker gave a powerful address, Mr. Jason Banker spent countless hours preparing the Bibles and getting ready for the ceremony. Thank you also to Mr. Chris Dahlberg and Ms. Amy Murphy for their role in coordinating the events of the morning. See pictures Hear the podcast
The Bibles are made possible through the Gaylon and Deanna Smith Endowed Fund which was established by the estates of Dr. Gaylon and Mrs. Deanna Smith after their untimely death. Dr. Smith was a member of the Harding Academy Class of 1963. He served on Harding Academy's Board of Directors for a number of years and served as the corporation Secretary up until the time of his death. Mrs. Smith was very active in the Harding Academy Parents Club. She was also on the Board of Directors of Harding University. Their two children, Craig and Keith Smith, are Harding Academy graduates and members of the Classes of 1992 and 1993 respectively.

Alumna Whitney Mongue '10 and Guest in Art III/IV Whitney Mongue ('10) a graphic design major at University of Memphis, taught a class on figure study with the help from her cousin, Taylor, who is competitive gymnast and fourth in the sate in all age groups. She is currently training for the Olympics. Whitney began by asking the students to draw several short 30 second sketches as Taylar performed various poses. The students were amazed at her agility! Then she allowed the students to work on a ten minute sketch while Taylar held a more challenging pose. Whitney then proceeded to instruct the students on an individual basis pointing out successes and advising improvements. She was very encouraging and the students were thrilled to have a recent alumna teach them. Taylor loved the interaction with the older students and when the figure study sessions were complete, she entertained the class by standing on her hands and walking around the classroom.
