Happy Birthday Harding Academy! Our 59th School Year |

The 59th school year at Harding Academy of Memphis
was celebrated by the entire Harding system! We  sang Happy Birthday and prayed for our school. All locations had cake (or cookies) as a birthday treat! On September 8, 1952, students arrived for their first day of school. Parents registered their students on September 4 with great anticipation for a what Christian education would mean to their families. Can you imagine how they must have felt? We have been truly blessed. Next year will mark six decades! The Commercial Appeal took a picture of the Cherry Road celebration and, it is in today's paper - page B5.

What's Happening Tonight . . .
Varsity football team plays the Eagles of Jackson Christian tonight at HOME (7:00). It is Elementary Night at the game! We encourage all of our elementary students, faculty, and staff to be there! "Miss" Bonnie, White Station principal, may even come in her cheerleader attire! Ben & Jerry's will be on hand to make this a "cool" evening. Wear your spirit shirt (or Beat the Eagles shirt). Tailgating will begin in the "cove" at 4:30 by the tennis courts. Come out and support your LIONS! (Alert. . . Elvis alert . . see if you can find Elvis at the game . . . selling Kroger cards!)

Get Your City Saver Coupon Book!
The Jr./Sr. High students are selling City Saver books. If they meet their goal, then we ALL will get to have the Monday after Easter as a holiday. Fall LEAP 2011 - NOT TOO LATE - Register ONLINE today!
- Piano - spots are available at both White Station and Cordova for GROUPS.
- The Strings program will begin after Fall Break!
- Drama Kids is an international program and new at Harding this year - they will still take new students.
- Ballet will begin this week at the Cordova campus and ECCR. The NEW teacher is Sarah Snodgrass. There will not be a tap component in this new class. ECCR will meet on Wednesdays instead of Thursday.
- Mad Science: Middle School Science is being made available to our 4th - 6th graders! We are the only school that is doing this and I think our kids are up to the challenge!
- "Beehave" Ettiquette is a new program for both boys and girls. Give your kids a the gift of ettiquette!

ACT Prep Classes at Harding
The GUIDANCE OFFICE is offering TWO ACT prep classes at Harding this fall.
- September 22 - October 20 (9/22, 9/29, 10/13, 10/20) -- 3:30 - 5:30 Test 10/22
- November 10 - December 8 (11/10, 11/17, 12/1, 12/8) -- 3:30 - 5:30 Test 12/10
Instructor: Gary McCormack
Cost: $170 Class fee
Book: $15 for The Real ACT -- you can also purchase on your own.

Harding Uses Naviance as a College Prep Tool!
The Guidance Office is pleased to introduce Family Connection from Naviance, a web-based service designed especially for students and parents. Through Naviance you can learn about your learning styles, your personality and career interests, and the colleges that might be the best match for you.
Family Connection can help in making decisions about colleges and is used extensively by the counselor's office in helping students prepare for and apply for admission to colleges and other post-secondary opportunities. It is a tremendous tool...take advantage of it!
If you have not received specific information regarding your student's family connection page, you will during the 2011-2012 school year.

The Guidance Office at Cherry Road is sponsoring Digital Media and Cyber Safety · Tuesday, October 18, at 6:30 in the Stepherson Room at the Cherry Road campus. It will be an hour of "must have" information for parents. If you have questions, please call the Cherry Road Guidance office at 763-3280.

Elementary Parent/Teacher Conferences
Mark your calendars for the Elementary Parent/Teacher Conferences scheduled for September 16. Elementary classes (JK - 6th) will be dismissed at 11:30. There will be no after-care or LEAP classes that afternoon. |
