A Note from Jay

July has been a terrific month here at 4th. We had lots of new guests as a result of Microsoft and the Mart being in town. The local hotel concierge and friends at the ACVB helped make a normally dreary month one of our best of the year! But even more encouraging is the fact that we continue to see so many of our regulars, over and over, all summer. Ken and Caroline Meltzer are a few dinners away from a fully complimentary five-course wine dinner because of all their Savory Rewards Points.  David Cornell may be our single greatest regular by sheer number of visits followed closely by his regualar companion, Dr. Gaskins. John and Erica Livingston grace our bar for dinner and laughs whenever they are in Atlanta and Lynn and Candice Fowler are always charming as dinner guests. Not to mention Tiffany and Steve Karp, CJ Young and Barbara Petit, Fred Pannek (our first guest ever at the chefs table), my friends Mindy and Paul Heaton all the way from the burbs, The Kalnasy's, our "ambassador" Robert Sommers, Chad Hood who bought a Liver Foundation Auction Dinner and just keeps coming back, Craig Dolezal and Jennifer Boehm, the Trimbles, the Lynches and the Shufeldts. I know I am missing someone, and I hope those people will come in again soon to remind me of it. I feel lucky to have so many supporters locally, especially in the Old Fourth Ward and surrounding neighborhoods.

Lemon Cucumbers
Lemon Cucumbers
In other news, it turns out these "lemon" cucumbers we grow are relentlessly productive as well as delicious. They have been in our panzanella salad for weeks. They grow plump and yellow just like a lemon but a lot less watery than a regular cuke. The sweet local corn is here and of course heirloom tomatoes are peaking. We can't keep enough local okra in the house as it seems there's an order going out to every table. Seafood from Georgia and the Carolinas, including Shrimp, Clams and Flounder have all been terrificly popular as well.

Look for our table at next month's "Attack of the Killer Tomato Fest" at JCT Kitchen on the Westside. We will be preparing chilled watermelon and tomato soup, and calamari ceviche with avocado and yuzu. And we are happy to be sponsored by Dillwood Farms for the event. Come see me soon!!

Love your mama ~ Eat real food!
