The Golf Tournament on Sunday, May 31st at Bali Hai was a huge success.  The weather was beautiful, the food was great, and the golfing was awesome.

There was a 3-way tie for first place team with a score of 60 each.  After a scorecard playoff, the winners were Steve Schorr, Darrin Schorr, Danny Ganier and Raul Machine.  Second place went to Steve McCracken, Jason Thompson, Dan Hale and Frank Sidoris.  Third place winners were John Steinbeck, Sr., Joe Miller, Ron Gillmore and Tim Fournier.

Thanks go to Aaron Campbell for hosting the event, and providing some great raffle prizes and a membership to Red Rock Country Club which was auctioned off.  Everyone seemed be having a good time.  Click below to view some of the photos.

Emergency Volunteer Search Force activated by Metro

callout

LVMPD Missing Persons Det. Lonnie Jolliff, Sgt. Peter Ferranti, Det. Tom Marin and Det. Pam Kniffen along with two officers prepare assignments at command post

On Tuesday, June 9th, we received a call from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Missing Persons Detail to activate our trained Emergency Volunteer Search Force.  They asked us to assist in locating two missing boys in Las Vegas. Following our normal procedure, we called our EVSF members, locked up the office, notified our answering service and immediately headed over to the command post.  Police, volunteers and NCS staff searched surrounding areas for hours, talking to neighbors and local shop owners.  Fortunately, the children were located unharmed about 10 hours after they went missing.  A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers who were able to participate.

In the case of any missing child, the community really does want to help and the Emergency Volunteer Search Force is one of the ways you can.  An emergency call can come at any time, on any day, from any law enforcement agency.  When this happens there is not enough time to provide training for those individuals wanting to help.  Untrained individuals coming out to assist can actually hinder the search and/or investigation.  That's why we offer training each year for our new volunteers and our current volunteers who want to refresh their training experience.  Background checks are also required because our focus is on children.

If you or someone you know who is 18 or older would like to participate in the Nevada Child Seekers Emergency Volunteer Search Force, please contact us. We will be having an EVSF meeting for all volunteers in July.  There are opportunities on our E-Volunteer Team for those who would like to assist us in distributing flyers of missing children through e-mail as well. Call us at (702) 458-7009 to learn more. The more people on our team partnering to protect children, the safer our children really will be.

Governor signs anti-human trafficking law
AB 380
Human trafficking of children into the sex industry has been a major concern of law enforcement in Nevada and across the country.  An estimated 200,000 American children are at-risk. For this reason, Assembly Members Bernie Anderson and John Hambrick introduced Assembly Bill 380 and asked Nevada Child Seekers to testify in its support.

This new law enhances existing laws by authorizing the court to impose additional criminal fines up to $500,000 on a person who is convicted of pandering or prostitution of a child depending upon the age of the child.  These fines will be used to pay for victims services.

The new law also  provides that a portion of the forfeited assets of a person who commits the offense be directed to programs for the prevention of prostitution of children.  AB380 will go into effect October 1, 2009.
