
DEMOCRACY & COEXISTENCE IN WEST AFRICA. In collaboration with local civil society organizations, Coexistence International at Brandeis recently hosted a workshop in Ghana exploring inclusion and sustainability in democratic affairs. Over 30 participants from six West African countries participated - including Dauda Garuba (above), Senior Program Officer at the Centre for Democracy and Development in Nigeria. Joining them were three Brandeis alumni of the Sustainable International Development and Coexistence & Conflict programs.

Education, Ethics, and Governance for an International Judiciary

In her keynote address, Louise Arbour, Former Supreme Court Justice of
Canada, former Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal
for the former Yugoslavia, and former UN High Commissioner for Human
Rights, will speak about judicial independence, resting in part on
express ethical rules, continuing legal education, and an effort at
self-governance. The talk, which is free and open to the public, is
cosponsored by the International Center for Ethics, Justice, and Public
