THE DISPATCH                                                Issue: #11 June 4th, 2008
Greetings!

Recently, Kathleen O'Connor had the privilege to interview Dr. Bill Crounse, MD, Senior Director at Microsoft's Worldwide Health division, who gave her a bird's eye view into the vision and technologies Microsoft is bringing to health care.  These developments give us great inspiration, as our survey research findings from the Pulse® show the public's support of increasing technology to save costs and increase efficiency in the U.S. health care system.

Also, we are thrilled to announce our Town Hall meeting this fall which will kick off the Voter's Health Care Platform.  Read on for more about these exciting developments.
Microsoft Brings Medical Technology into the 21st Century
Kathleen O'Connor Interviews Dr. Bill Crounse, MD, Sr. Director, Worldwide Health, Microsoft Corp.
I attended a conference in May and heard Dr. Bill Crounse, MD, speak. I was fortunate enough to be able to interview him later about some of Microsoft's activities. I was stunned with the implication of these new tools and technologies and their potential impact on the practice of medicine and real patient-centered care.

Dr. Crounse believes improved technologies will provide solutions that make health care dramatically more available and at lower cost.  Additionally, a more consumer-centric model will give people more control and better tools to manage their care.

"People want good, reliable information, when they are looking for it.  More than 60% of search inquiries on the Internet now are related to health and health care," Dr. Crounse observes.  "People need to have a range of tools to help them find and manage this information for themselves and their families."

A range of tools developed by Microsoft, Google, Revolution Health and others are creating more refined ways to search for health information and create secure, central repositories for personal healthcare data, working in partnerships with provider systems.

Additional respondent data adds momentum
Every day, we are partnering with new organizations to have their members complete our Pulse® survey and join in our push for deep reform in the health care system.

Recent partners include Faithful Reform in Health Care, Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce, Cancer LifeLine, The Artists Trust, the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, the Seattle Human Services Coalition, Washington Newspaper Publishers Assocation, and the Grange, to name a few.  These organizations' members have the opportunity to take our Pulse® survey tool so we can compare their members' views with our market research data. We sincerely value all input, and look forward to working with these and other groups so the voice of the American voters can be heard.
