Hello,
As the spring sunlight begins to increase and the dormant bulbs start to grow, the flowers that bloom often remind me of the businesses that we serve.
They all go through life cycles, some longer than others, but overall they all thrive on what we give them through nurturing and sometimes just pure luck.
We appreciate them for their amazing ability to use the resources they have available and make the most of the conditions that exist.
When you see a blooming plant this Spring think of all the business owners and hard workers out there who strive to make the best of each and every day.

From the desk of the Executive Director
 On
February 25, the County of Humboldt and the rest of the Prosperity
Network hosted a workshop with IDEO, the world-class design company. Over 50
business and community leaders attended and among the guests was Dr. Peter
Hackbert. Peter is a professor of entrepreneurship at Berea College, a liberal
arts college in the Appalachian region. Somehow, he learned about the IDEO
project, he tracked me down, and he traveled from Kentucky to be here with
us for the workshop.
At
the end of the day, Peter and I debriefed for a short time. He found the
energy, the "spark" in our local community, to be phenomenal. He hopes to stay
involved with us, should we press forward with the IDEO project. Peter Hackbert
is an IDEO fan and, as of the end of that day, a North Coast fan. He hopes to bring some of what
we are doing to Appalachia.
As
we go through our work lives, as we continue to struggle with the larger
economy, as we quarrel about this and that, let's remember that we have
advantages. Among them is that "spark," which does not apply to many rural
communities. Indeed, we should remember that we are blessed.
