North Coast SBDC staff apply for three new grants

The grants we are currently working on are:
  • Headwaters Fund - Innovation in Our Region.  We are seeking to design a high quality program that will increase entrepreneurial success through innovative ways of doing business.
  • Small Business Administration - Portable.  The Nor Cal Lead Center will submit a proposal that will include a component to address recent adverse economic events in the North Coast dairy, timber, and fishing industries.
  • Wells Fargo - Youth Entrepreneurship initiative, in partnership with Humboldt County Office of Education.

News

Our organization, along with all of the Northern California Region SBDC's, are currently working on implementing a new workshop registration process.  The new process will streamline our operations and assist clients in tracking their workshops.

Current clients will go from our website to eCenter, a new feature of our client management program, and use their email address and a password to log in.  If clients do not have a password they will be instructed on the site on how to obtain one.

New clients will be directed to create a client account, receive a password, and log in to start the workshop registration process.

From there, clients will be able to see all of the workshops or conferences that they have attended and also those for which they are registered.

This process will reduce data entry time used by staff to record workshop details and client attendance, while improving the accuracy of client information.

The new process will require a bit more effort at the start and it will take some getting used to.  We sincerely hope that clients will find the new procedure to be more useful.

New Mileage Rates Announced for 2010

The Internal Revenue Service issued the optional standard mileage rates used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical, or moving purposes.

  • 50 cents per mile for business miles driven
  • 16.5 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations
The mileage rates for 2010 reflect generally lower transportation costs compared to one year ago.
