Three celebrations took place Tuesday, September 20th at Stewart Park, with the United Way of Tompkins County organizing its annual Stephen E. Garner Day of Caring Food and Personal Care Items Drive, announcing the community campaign fundraising goal of $2,151,000 and adding in the organization's 90-year commemoration, complete with a birthday cake. Thank you volunteers, businesses and community members for your continued support.

A Cappella United Concert

Cornell University's Nationally Recognized Student United Way held its 5th Annual A Cappella United Concert on Friday, September 16th. All proceeds benefited United Way of Tompkins County. The event, a great success, included an appearance by former Cornellian Dylan Owen. The concert was a special part of the Community Campaign kick-off.
Carson Jordan from Lehman Alternative Community School and Samantha Smith, United Way of Tompkins County Staff joined other Student United Way Groups from across the country to learn more about the Student United Way movement and share best practices.
Tri-Campus Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive

As part of UWTC's Student and Campus Engagement, the 2nd Annual Stuff the Bus Campaign for School Supplies took place on all three college campuses, TC3, Ithaca College and Cornell University. Gadabout Transportation Services joined this collaborative effort by providing a bus for the event. MaineSource and Cayuga Radio Group's Hits 103.3 supported the event through donated materials and publicity. School supplies were provided to the Ithaca City School District and Dryden Central Schools.

This year, David Andros and
Frank Aburto are working with UWTC special volunteer and mentor, Jeannie Barnaba, and Southside Community Center. The Johnson Board Fellows Program is a leadership program that pairs MBA students with area non-profit organizations.
Ithaca College Philanthropy Corps Grant Opening

Ithaca College Philanthropy Corps provides a unique opportunity to students and the community. Ithaca College students raise funds annually and distribute them through a competitive grant process. This year's Philanthropy Corps grant cycle is open until October 31, 2011 at 12 Noon.
Youth and Philanthropy is an initiative designed to inspire youth to take an active role in their communities and think about philanthropy as an important part of their lives. Since its inception in 2000, the Park Foundation has been the program's major funder. All community nonprofits are eligible to apply by October 31, 2011 at 12 Noon.

2011-12 Community Campaign Underway
United Way of Tompkins County Community Campaign Co-Chairs, John & Mary Gutenberger and Fred Bonn & Nancy Fuhr Bonn announced the 2011-12
Community Campaign goal of $2,151,000.
Community Campaign gifts support local health and human services and programs. Community Care Fund gifts support seven issue areas: Basic Needs, Child Care/Early Learning, Crisis Services, Financial Stability/Building Self-Sufficiency, Health /
Environment, Seniors, and Youth. Gifts can also be directed to Urgent Rx Prescription Program, Hunger & Food Security and Student Engagement. Thanks to our generous
member organizations, or another United Way are building and supporting health and human services and programs.
