| The NAIA's Vision is Clear: Character-Driven Intercollegiate Athletics |
The core values of our signature Champions of Character program - respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, sportsmanship - must be woven into the NAIA fabric, and your strategic plan outlines key initiatives to do just that. NAIA competition must reflect those values. They must be a fundamental element in NAIA coaches' education, the key focus in NAIA communications, and centerpiece of our development strategy.
We invite you to take a look at a bullet-point summary of the strategic plan, and we welcome your feedback. To review the NAIA strategic plan "at a glance," click here. |
| Opportunities for Presidents to Advance the Plan Also are Clear: |
1. Join with your colleagues to assume an active leadership role in governance affairs within your conference. The strategic plan depends on strong conferences. They cannot be strong without your leadership and support.
2. Insist on accountability to basic standards of quality for the conduct of intercollegiate athletics. The Council of Presidents has mandated the articulation of basic standards in four areas this year: conference governance, coaches' education, conduct in competition, and rules education and accountability. Those standards cannot be implemented without your leadership and support.
3. Advocate on behalf of character-driven intercollegiate athletics. Bigger isn't always better. Mission, quality instruction and personal attention are just as important to distinguishing the NAIA "niche" experience as those same qualities are making your campus experience singular and worthy of support. Let's work together to tell that story to colleagues, key stakeholders in higher education and the media. For NAIA president talking points click here. |
