A TRAGIC ACCIDENT WITH LONG TERM CONSEQUENCES
On the morning of September 30, Patty Schimmer, a teacher at Corn Bible Academy in Corn, Oklahoma was driving to school with three student passengers when another vehicle crossed the centre line and hit her SUV head-on. The other driver was killed.  Patty was airlifted to Oklahoma City with extensive injuries to her feet, legs and spine.  She has been through eleven surgeries since the accident.  Doctors have estimated 3-5 months before she can walk and 12-18 months for "full recovery".  Two of her student passengers are back at school and the third is recovering at home.  All will recover fully.  Please pray for:

  • Patty, so she can keep her spirits up as she goes through additional surgery and therapy.
  • The Schimmer family as they continue to support Patty in her long recovery period.
  • The Corn Academy, staff and students, as they adjust to the lengthy absence of a much-loved teacher.  Patty is the sponsor of the senior class.
  • The boys who were injured and their families.  Pray for their full and speedy recovery.
  • The family of the deceased young man whose vehicle hit the Schimmer vehicle.  They have been in touch with the Schimmers and restorative relationships have been built.
  • At the family's request, please also pray for the insurance companies.  "We'd just like to request that you pray that the insurance companies involved in this situation will resolve this situation amicably. Obviously there are a number involved, and there are lots of issues to iron out."

If anyone wishes to follow Patty's recovery in more detail, the family is maintaining a daily and very interesting blog, which you can access by going to the Corn Academy's website at www.cornbible.org .  Thank you to Pam Harms from Harms Insurance Agency for bringing this prayer request to our attention.  Corn Bible Academy, with 88 students in grades 7-12, is a MAX and MAXIA member.

AN EFFORT TO REDUCE PAIN
Travis, suffers from multiple degenerative disks in his back and a blood clot in his left leg.  In an effort to better control the pain and allow a dramatic reduction in the use of pain medication which affects his kidneys and liver, an intrathecal pain pump is being surgically installed.  A trial test in the use of such a pain pump in August had good success.  Travis is the spouse of MAX staff member Pam, from Kidron, Ohio.

  • Pray for the family and friends who surround and support this couple with care and love.
  • Pray for God's guidance for the surgeons and nurses during the surgery, scheduled for October 31.
