YOUNG WOMAN STRUGGLES WITH BRAIN TUMOUR
Please pray for twenty-three year old Heidi Gascho from Stratford Ontario and her parents Paul and Sharon, as Heidi struggles for her life against a malignant brain tumour.  Heidi was serving with Youth With a Mission in Belfast, Ireland when she began suffering increasingly severe headaches and nausea.  She ended her term early and arrived home at the end of June for medical treatment when the tumour was diagnosed.  Heidi underwent surgery on July 7 and is now undergoing chemo and radiation treatment.  Unfortunately the prognosis is not positive.   "Right now it looks like the only chance for Heidi is a miracle" says her father Paul.  Pray for the immediate and extended family as they struggle to make sense of these events in the life of a young and vibrant woman.  The Gascho family are members at Milverton Mennonite Fellowship.

BARN RAISING REVITALIZED
barn raising While a barn raising might remain a relatively common experience in some parts of the Anabaptist constituency, it is relatively rare in other areas.  We therefore want to give thanks and celebrate with Walter Bergen, a member of  Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Abbotsford BC when the church community responded to an invitation to help Walter build his barn.  On a Saturday in early July, family, friends and members of Emmanuel Mennonite Church did a barn raising on the Bergen farm.  In one day they laid floor joists, flooring, exterior walls and trusses and finished sheeting the roof and interior walls a week later.  "Somehow I want to tell this story so that others might be inspired to call upon their fellow church members to do together what cannot be done alone.  Such a barn raising is an uncommon experience in our area. It was done more in my parent's time" says Walter.  He even sent us photos of the event.  Let's give thanks for a community that works together physically to achieve a greater goal.

In an email of July 21, Walter shares this story.  "For me the decision to insure with MAX is part of a commitment to Mutual Aid which is charity within the community of faith. Back in 1984, I was part of a work bee that replaced a roof for a fellow church member whose roof had failed.  They could afford shingles, but not the contractor. The roof was replaced in a day by students and church members.  It was one of the most meaningful faith experiences I've had."  Thanks for the testimony, Walter.
