Sanctuary Floor Collapses
We request that you keep the Central Heights Mennonite Church in Abbotsford, British Columbia, in your prayers. On Friday evening, April 25, during a musical worship concert at the church, the sanctuary floor collapsed into the basement, taking some 40 people with it. The accident occurred just after 9:00 pm while a group of teenagers were exuberantly enjoying a sold-out Starfield concert at the Church. The injured were taken to area hospitals. All but three were released later that night. One youth was deemed in critical condition. Currently, the congregation is conducting services at the auditorium of Columbia Bible College.
- Pray for the quick healing of the physical injuries and emotional trauma of the youth involved.
- Give thanks for the miracle that no one was killed in the accident.
- Remember the congregation's leadership and particularly lead pastor Chris Douglas as they deal with the aftermath of this event and move on with the repairs.
Fourteen Year Old Undergoes Heart Surgery
Brent and Rita Bauman are experiencing great thankfulness and relief after almost a month of stress and uncertainty. On April 14, their fourteen year old son Philip collapsed at school with what was thought to be heart failure or a heart attack. For a while there was uncertainty whether Philip would survive. "We are so thankful that everyone was at the right place at the right time" says Brent. Everyone did the right thing when needed. This, the fervent prayers of many people combined with the marvels of medical science performed at Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto saved Philip. "God heard his people and granted us a miracle" wrote his youth pastor, Stefan Cherry. On Monday, May 5, Philip underwent open heart surgery to repair abnormalities in his heart that existed since birth. "We can do things now that we couldn't do fourteen years ago," the surgeon told the family. The surgery was successful and Philip has been informed he can go home this week. After further recovery he will be able to lead a normal youthful life. The Bauman family are members of Floradale Mennonite Church and members of MAX Canada.
- Let us give thanks for committed people who were at the right place at the right time for Philip.
- Give thanks also for the advances of medical science which has restored physical wholeness to a teenager who was close to death.
- Finally, give thanks for a supportive praying community that surrounded Brent, Rita and sister Melissa with practical, emotional and prayer support preserving hope and faith as they walked through a difficult uncertain time .
