The Upheaval of a Home Fire

Around noon on October 2, Frank and Helena Friesen experienced the tragedy of a house fire which forced them out of their home near Blenheim, Ontario.  Starting in the attached garage, from what is believed to be an electrical source, the fire entered and gutted the attic of the home.  Water and smoke damage throughout the home were extensive. Thankfully no one was injured.

Please pray for this family as they re-orient their lives to accommodate the upheaval of being suddenly out of their home for a number of months with most of their belongings damaged and unusable. Pray that they have the strength and patience to deal with the multitude of details relating to processing the claim and restoring their home.  Pray for healing of the trauma this event has created for the family.  Pray for complete restoration and wholeness.

Meeting with the Friesens, we were blessed by their spirit of thankfulness in the midst of their tragedy.  Let us, with the encouragement of the Friesen family, also offer prayers of thanksgiving:

  • That no one was injured in the fire.
  • For the wonderful support of the local Red Cross which was there almost immediately and provided them with a $600 voucher for emergency food and lodging.
  • For family and neighbours who were so helpful in the immediate aftermath of the fire.
  • For the amazing embrace and care of their faith community, the Blenheim EMMC congregation, and pastor Aaron Friesen.
  • That Frank, a long distance trucker, who was in Chicago at the time, was able to get home by the following day.
  • For adequate insurance coverage, a quick response by MAX Canada claims and the excellent work of the adjuster and the restoration crew.
  • That the family has found a suitable apartment for rent for the next several months in the Blenheim community which allows their four children, aged four to fifteen, to all walk to school.

Updates:

Ozias Burkhart

In August, we shared a prayer request for Ozias Burkhart who underwent surgery for a brain tumour.  Initially everything seemed to be great.  However, in early September, Oz had to undergo a second surgery to clean up some infection that had set in.  Since that surgery he has been receiving antibiotics intravenously to ensure infection does not set in again.  He is hopeful that an appointment next week will allow him to get off the restrictive antibiotics regimen.

Benjamin Dyck Family

In June, we shared a prayer request for the Dyck family from the Leamington area who on their way home from church had an accident with eight people in the van.  All have recovered from their injuries except for grandmother Dyck who, after being on life support systems, passed away from the injuries she incurred.
