MARLBORO LIBRARY OFFERS COMPUTER "HOW TO" CLASSES-Marlboro, NY - The Marlboro Free Library will be offering a series of computer "How To" classes on Thursday evenings, beginning September 23rd. The classes are designed to demonstrate and give hands-on experience on a number of online subjects. Participants are expected to know how to use a computer. Classes are aimed at adults and will be free of charge. All classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last approximately one hour. Individuals are invited to attend any or all of the classes. Pre-registration is required for planning purposes.  Register by calling 236-7272, ext. 14.

Soup up your library card!-Thursday, Sept. 23-Take control of your library account at home 24/7 with just your library card, a PIN and an Internet connection.  You will learn to: place a reserve on newly published items, get notices about new releases from your favorite authors, renew checked out items yourself, keep a personal history of what you have borrowed and learn to manage your reserves by "freezing." The class will also cover navigating Overdrive, the library's free downloadable audiobook service.

Revenge on the Attack of the Spyware-Thursday, Sept. 30 -Opening an innocent looking email could be the beginning of a sequence that puts your computer out of commission and cost you money to restore. Learn the basics on how you can be a more savvy consumer and protect your investment at the same time.

Talking 'Bout Your Generations-Thursday, Oct. 7-Genealogy has surpassed bowling as the number one American pastime.  There are many online fee-based services available, but if you know the right place to look, there are many valuable free resources that we can demonstrate.  The Library owns some of them so you don't have to buy them!  If you're just getting started, or you're a little bit stuck in your research, this class may help.

Buying & Selling Online-Thursday-Oct. 14 -Save yourself the time and hassle of holding a Tag Sale when you can do it online and let the computer do all the work for you! Come learn about eBay, Craigslist and other buy and sell sites. Learn about securely paying for items purchased online including PayPal. One person's junk is another person's treasure.

Getting Social-Thursday, Oct. 21-Facebook, Twitter, Chat, Skype. If you've read about "social media" but don't know where to start, come to this class to learn about the benefits and the things to watch out for. Basic instruction will be offered to those interested in getting started.

Websites, Wikis and Blogs (Oh, my!)-Thursday, Oct. 28-It once was a complicated program to start an online presence.  Now, with free social media tools, it is a much more intuitive process and doesn't involve hours absorbing software manuals. Want to launch a website for your new hobby or business? Or maybe you want to share your opinions, expertise or thoughts and become a blogger. Using a Wiki streamlines collaborating with multiple users on a project or event saving hours of phone calls and repetitive emails and it is so easy to do!
