Dear Peake Academy Families,

Things you need to know:

1.  To assist families in reviewing their monthly invoices and create an even more efficient system, at the end of this month you will receive a statement instead of an invoice for December.  It will be similiar to a credit and/or bank statement where it will list all charges by date with a total balance due at the end.  We recognize that change is not always easy and we appreciate your support.  As always, Ms. Kathia is available if you have questions.  The best way to reach her is office@playboutique.com.

2.  Families, if know one is out front or we are with another family and you would like to purchase a snack that you are able to "grab and go," please feel free to write down what you purchased on the "Beeztro Orders - Family & Staff" that sits next to the far computer.  We will then use that to input your charges to your account.

classroom notes

This week was super fun and the class did a very good job listening and following directions.  Keep up the good work! Please have your child practice their 10 spelling words.

This week in reading, the class learned about reading comprehension and how to apply it to different stories they read. We also focused on listening for the beginning, middle, and end of stories.  We applied these skills this week to, Miss Nelson is Missing.  Then, the class learned about the long i sound and how to determine when to use that sound in different words. They all practiced reading, rhyming and ending with ox, ot, and op. Finally, the class reviewed and read all the words we have learned about so far in class, including sight and rhyming words.

In writing, the class worked on all their sight and rhyming words they have learned this year. The class also practiced writing compound words and what compound words look like. The class also, learned how to write words in alphabetical order. I gave them 10 words and they had to write them in the correct order.   Finally, the class also practiced writing their numbers up to 100.

During math this week the class began to learn how to count by 5's by writing numbers 1-100 and circling the numbers that correlate with counting by 5's. This is the next step to learn how to tell time. We are working on understanding the whole concept of time.  They also worked on some different skill sheets that are named "What's Left" and "Subtraction problems 1-5."  As the class continues to work with money, the class did money rubbings of different coins so they could visually see the difference between the heads side and the tales side.

In art with Ms. Jennifer, the class finished their spider webs and are going to start their next project.  In our class, the students made a fall/Thanksgiving wreath with fall leaves that the class traced and cut out and finally, the class made fall necklaces out of pasta that the they dyed different fall colors.

Have a great weekend!

Jumping jaguars driving Jeeps!  "Jj" was the letter of the week and the theme was Native Americans.

Writing "Jj"s was jam-packed with fun and accomplishment.  Mac wrote his on his own and was so proud to share with his whole table.  First and last names were practiced and Rylee definitely excelled.  Please remember when practicing at home that it is upper case for the first letter then lower case for the rest.  The entire class is writing so well now!

The week began in Math with cutting shapes and matching them.  Charlie's cutting skills have come a long way and he finished quickly.  We also counted fingerprints we made for feathers on turkeys that will come home soon.  Circling the appropriate number after counting objects was also practiced for number recognition and Henry is a real pro!

Music and the parachute were a huge hit, ask the kids about "shake it, shake shake shake shake it, and stop."  Also how everyone got to be a part of laying down while the big colorful "air conditioner" turns on.

Spanish was all about "colores".  Colors were a blast to learn about and we used the game "Hullabaloo" to practice and recognize them.  Anna has now insisted that Maestra Stacy only speaks spanish to her, muy bien!  (very good)

Native Americans were studied all week and the children were so surprised to find out that they couldn't just go to the "grocery store" or the "mall" to purchase the items they needed.  Rory's grandmother and mother came in to share the culture of Native Americans in Alaska.  It was so interesting and the kids were thoroughly engrossed.  The children learned so much about the lifestyle and we able to put a canoe together and paint it and loved hearing about the clothing and their favorite, the passing of beautiful items to touch and feel.  We are so lucky to have such willing parents and grandparents to share with us.  Please let us know if you would like to share anything special with the class.  You are always welcome.

Totem poles, canoes, wreaths, and "thankful handprints" were all a part of Art this week.  Please come in and read what your beautiful children are thankful for.  We promise you will walk out with a smile!

Thank you to Rory's family for the wonderful presentation.  She was so proud!  Thanks to Charlie's mom for the cutting and to Anna's grandma for the offer of volunteering!  We appreciate all of you!

Warmly, Ms. Stacy and Ms. Lindsi

classroom notes

It has been a busy week in Preschool.  With our Heroes theme, fall all around and Thanksgiving coming up we had plenty of fun things to do and talk about.

We talked about Hero's this week.  It is a challenging concept to grasp (maybe for adults even) and differentiating a hero from a super hero was something that many kids just weren't going to accept.  Hero's "fly with their arms out" was something that Laimis said and Charles knows that Superman is a hero and that is that.  It was still a lot of fun and we enjoyed laughing at the idea of our moms wearing capes and firefighters flying around.  Even though those things don't usually happen, we did agree that moms, dads, doctors, police officers, etc. can be pretty heroic.  I love that when Henry was asked "What is a Hero" he said "me" and that Alena said "a farmer."  We made My Hero paper bag puppets in art and they are pretty cute.

The kids have enjoyed the Thanksgiving stories we have been reading this week.  Ten Silly Turkeys was the clear favorite.  The kids break out into laughter each time it is read.  We also have started some turkey projects.  Who does not love a hand print turkey?  That is a classic for a reason.

Jackalope jumping and juggling jelly beans!!!!  That's right... our letter of the week is J!  J is for our buddy Jack!  It is also for Jumping.  We played all kinds of jumping games this week for the letter J.  The kid's favorite was either the Jump for J card game or jumping in and out of the class hula hoop.  We also did jumping Jacks which was especially fun this year since we have a Jack in class.  (It is not a secret that Ms. Angie giggles when she sees little kids doing jumping jacks-they just look so happy and cute.)  We also colored J's and Jelly bean paper with jelly bean crayons (only one kid out of 20 tried to eat one after the "these are not real jelly beans so don't eat them!!!" warning.  You should have seen his face but no warnings they are non-toxic and it was promptly spit out!  ugh.)  We also did jelly bean math with real jelly beans.  This was a favorite activity and the kid's did a great job.  We sorted the jelly beans, talked about the concepts of most and least, worked on one to one correspondence and also counted and then subtracted (and ate) those jelly beans.  Busy delicious math.

It was so nice to have Holly's Grand Mere spend time with us this week.  Thanks for sharing your Grand Mere with us, Holly and Grand Mere, you are welcome any time.  It was nice to have you.

Happy Happy Birthday to Reeve this weekend!  Reeve, we love your appreciation for all things fun and your sweet spirit too.  When you come back to school you will be 4!

Hello Twos Families:

This week we continued our study of families by talking all about the people in our own family and singing about them.  We read The Family Book by Todd Parr and different books about moms, dads, and grandparents.  Later we studied the letter "H" and talked about houses that families live in.  The children were able to then make their own "house" collages complete with pictures of rooms and furniture that they would choose to interior decorate with.  This week, the letter "H" is also for "hat" and we read books about different hats that people wear.  (Ms. Nicole loves her hats!) Sadie, Everly, Brix, and Ruby decorated hats with flowers and Isaac, Kai, Grant, Olivia and Finn enjoyed trying on different types of hats, from orange fuzzy hats to pioneer bonnets to fireman hats to pirate hats!  Lots of building with duplo blocks went on this week as well, and we are very impressed with the staircases and moving vehicles that our children are building.  Keep up the good work!

See you next week!

It was Gabi's birthday this week! And we all got to have special treats and sing her happy birthday.

We also got an easel in our classroom, which was a very big hit. Tillie and Maren did a great job waiting for their turn to use the easel while Jake and Brooklyn showed their dance moves to the class. The whole class had a super fun time painting with ice for the letter I this week.

Isabella and Luke were very good friends to Wyatt this week and making sure if felt completely welcome and at home in class.  They especially did a great job sharing their toys with him.

We talked about family and all of the kids were excited to make their own family picture.  Be sure to look for them displayed in the classroom as they were super proud making them.

Xhristo and Lucy both had a great time on the playground racing each other to the slide and the bus.

My friends are getting really good at singing the songs at circle time with me.  I can't wait to start practicing holiday songs.

Ms. Katie

What a week we had in our happy and hip hoppin' Toddler Class.  Well, if you couldn't have guessed, our letter of the week was 'I.'  Our intense and oh so intriguing class decorated our class "I" with icky and funny INSECTS!
Though, our main focus for art this week was completing our "All About Me" books.  Our toddlers loved decorating their personnal posters with photos and stickers that described them all to a T!  We also started practicing our Holiday song for our annual Holidayevent at school.  Wait till you hear your little ones sing "Jingle Bells."  Feel free to practice with them at home, they just love to dance and sing.  Ms. Judy and Ms. Courtney really want to give a shout out to little Blaine who had the best drop off on Friday morning.  Yay for B!  Also, to
Jane, what a fabulous week you had.  You are really a big two year old now!!!
Happy Friday to our friends and have a great weekend!
