I hope everyone had a great Halloween. I cannot believe it is already November. We have so many great activities to do and so many subjects to learn about this month.
This week in Math the class learned more about subtracting objects. Each student was given a group of counting blocks to create their own subtraction problems. Then each student was asked to write their problems down onto a piece of paper share them with the class. We also worked on counting by 5's so the class could continue to the next step of telling time. Finally, the class worked on correlating numbers with the correct way to spell each number.
In Writing, the class worked on spelling out their numbers, writing different sight words, and words that end in ig and it. For example, big, wig, mit, fit.... We are always working on writing their full name, first and last. The class also worked on writing complete sentences, learning that every sentence needs to start with a capital and ends with a punctuation mark. They also learned about different punctuation marks and what they mean and how to use them.
In Reading the class read level 8 and 9 level BOB books, Tub fun and Dog Bug. These books were a little tricky for some students but we are working on many different sounds and blending them together. For story time I read, Mrs. McNosh and the Great Big Squash, Pumpkin Soup and The Biggest Leaf Pile.
In Art the class made their rough draft of their scarecrows with Ms. Jennifer and will complete their finally project next week. They also made a really creative pumpkin out of stripes of orange paper and a toilet paper roll. Finally, the class made a very pretty fall picture that they each had to create on their own after we read a fall book which gave them some great ideas.
In Social Studies the class talked about earth cycles. We talked about evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection. We also did a cotton ball experiment. Each student got a cotton ball that acted as a cloud and then they got a cup of water that acted as rain. Then we learned about the rain cycle and how and why rain comes from clouds.
We had a very busy October and November will be a lot of hard work but rewarding for each student.
Have a great weekend.

Ice cold igloos with iguanas inside..."Ii" was our letter of the week! It was a super tough one to brainstorm too! Rory came up with icicles and Luke had Isuzu for us. Our writing is really coming along and "Ii" is the perfect letter to build confidence with its nice straight lines.
We practiced writing one on one this week with Ms. Stacy and Mac and Addler both did their "Ii"s for the first time alone. Huge accomplishment! Saria and Sofia both matched their animal pictures to the appropriate number with no help! Incredible!
The sensory bin was filled with rice and scoops to practice moving from left to right. Rice was definitely a favorite place to be this week.
Earth cycles was the theme this week so we talked alot about the seasons and what to look for in each one. Aiden said he loves the snow so Winter was his favorite, Rylee loves jumping on and squishing leaves in the Fall and we all love the Spring and Summer. We tied this theme together with the cycle of a pumpkin and alot of the children didn't know that pumpkins have flowers. Parker was amazed!
In art we made letter "I" drawings and filled them with our own writing, created corn counting husks, and made seasonal trees. We are really working on teaching the children to draw with their glue onto the paper and not onto an item. It is less messy and much more efficient. We also cut shapes out then glued them onto the matching shape. Please feel free to work with your children at home. Everyone needs practice cutting but we are definitely seeing improvements.
Thank you so much to all of the parents that participated in the Halloween party on Monday! We all had a blast and the children really enjoy having you with us. Thank you Jen (Charlie's mom) for helping Ms. Stacy by reading when her voice was starting to fade. You're a life (voice) saver!
Spanish (espanol) was all about counting this week. The kids are getting so comfortable with it that they are now asking how to say specific words in Spanish during the day!

This week's theme was Earth Cycles. We enjoyed talking about the changes happening in the weather and the earth around us. The kids' are loving talking about their new fall and winter clothing (Ezra is loving his cool new coat) and about the leaves, rain and fog. We also talked a bit about spring, summer and winter as they are all a part of the earth's cycles too.
Some of the book's we read this week included Squirrel's Nutty Race, When the Leaf Blew In, and Fall is for Friends. We also read our favorite Halloween books and then said "good bye" to them until next year.
In art, we made lots of festive fall art so we could have some beautiful things to decorate our room with as all of the Halloween pictures come down. We made little leafy fall trees and we worked together to paint brown tree trunks for seasonal trees. We now have a very nice forest of fall, winter, spring and summer trees. We made wonderful fall leaf wreaths and made leaf prints and collages with real leaves.
There seemed to be leaf activities everywhere. We also practiced our writing on leaf shaped paper this week, used leaves for name recognition practice, sorted leaves by color and size in the science area and learned two new autumn leaves songs. When we sing "Autumn leaves come falling down" we like to swirl around the room like leaves on the breeze and then fall down fast when that part comes up.
We learned about what happens to an apple tree in each season. Then we pretended we were apple seeds that were planted and then grew and grew and grew. We went through the whole year as a tree. The kids enjoyed being planted and giggles all through the rain that fell on backs (teachers tickley, tappity fingers) and laughed and laughed when we picked the beautiful apples that grew and ate them. Laimis said "Don't forget my apple" and Madi shared that her mom grew an apple tree and she helped. We then sat down and pretended to make apple sauce and ate it all up. Delish!
In science, we cut up a wonderfully large and fragrant Cinderella pumpkin. The kid's enjoyed learning about the parts of a pumpkin and to squealish delight got to touch and play with "the guts."
Monday was Halloween and it was amazing! The kids had such a ball at the Halloween party. They played Halloween BINGO, get the ghost to the haunted house door, did a cute pumpkin craft, got tattoos and had a delicious cookie and juice snack. The party was beyond amazing and a million thank yous to all of the parents who helped organize, prepare, and make this great party happen. Elizabeth, Heather, Joe, Amy, and Zie Zie, you all are incredible. And another great big thanks to all of you who came in and did way more than just party it up with us. Having your extra hands and smiles in the room for the festivities was so appreciated. Thank You!!!
Happy Birthday Ellie F.! You are sunshine and we love you!

Hello Twos Families,
What a busy week we had with your children! We brought October to a close with our Halloween celebration where the children made spooky sticker pictures and ghost wind socks,. Later at lunch time, many were able to attend our Peake Academy Halloween party where there were even more fun crafts, cookies to decorate, and mini-apples to dip in caramel. Yum!
Then we began our new month of November with a talk about the meaning of "families." Most of our children don't have the words to describe what a family is, so it was quite interesting to have discussions with them about loved ones who take care of us. Moms and Dads were certainly brought up, as well as Grandmas and Grandpas and "Pappis" and "Nonnas", brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, and just special friends who are close to us. We will be talking about Families throughout the month of November, so if you have not brought in a picture of your family yet, please do so! We plan on keeping them up for the year, and the children absolutely LOVE looking at not only their own family picture, but others as well. Its wonderful to see them learn through the pictures that there are lots of different kinds of families.
This week we also caught up with our alphabet letters and learned more about "F" and "G" and were able to find so many words that started with those letters in our classroom, including our very own Grant! Sadie, Olivia, Ruby, and Elia enjoyed pasting "feathers" on our giant letter "F" and later in the week followed up with making a giant "glitter" letter "G." Ethan, Finn, Audrey, Ruby, Elia, and Michael also created some magnificent "towers" with our blocks this week, as our building area has become quite popular. The children are becoming little architects! We are looking forward to seeing what the children become interested in next.
See you all next week!

Burrrrr! What a cold week! I hope everyone had a good Halloween! I would love to see pictures of everyone in their costumes.
Tuesday, we made houses for the letter H. Isabella loved using the glue sticks and creating her home sweet home!
Wednesday, we had fun with our parachute, Marin did an excellent job moving the beanbags up and down. Wyatt and Brooklyn were building with blocks together and Lucy loved her corndog for lunch. Gabi and Tillie are the best of friends, and they are doing a great job of inviting their other friends to play as well. Jake kept asking for his paintbrush when we painted the letter H but he ended up having a great time joining all of us in painting with our hands.
On Thursday, Xhristo water painted his hippo, and horse and we had a great visit with the other two's class.
All of my friends are doing a really good job in the bathroom. Some are trying to go potty by themselves and I am really impressed with the progress they are all making.
Don't forget the time change this weekend! See you all next week.
Ms. Katie
