Exciting week for Kindergarten at PEAKE Academy!  We had two special guests, Micah and Soleil.  Our guests did so well and we really enjoyed them in class.  We can't wait to see them next time!

The rest of our special crew, Olive, Jack, Leah and Kira did so well this week.

In Math we continued to work on counting money.  Right now we are focusing on what a penny looks like and it's value, along with a nickel and a dime.  We also began adding coins together to make an addition problem to solve.  This is a great first step to be able to count money and remembering the differences between each coin.

In Writing, the class continued to practice writing many different words, rhyming words, sight words, their whole name and many different numbers.

In Reading, I read the book True Fairy to the class.  The students continued to read "BOB" books.  The class has worked themselves up to level 3.

In P.E. the class did relays.  They practiced running, jumping, the bear walk and having fun while doing it!  It was so cute and each student had great team spirit.

Lastly Art, as fall is here, Ms. Jennifer, our specaial art teacher is focusing on fall projects.  This week the class painted a portrait of a haunted house out of coffee.  As the thme is "Exploring," the class also made a cool sailboat out of popsicle sticks, shapes and a paper plate to explore the world.

It was another fun week with the class.  I cannot wait for the next week!

With love,
Lindsi

classroom notes

Excellent and exciting elephants elevated our childrens' education in Pre-K this week!  In case you haven't figured it out, "Ee" was our letter of the week.  Ellie loved that she was used daily as an "E" word and smiled from ear to ear each time we called out her name.  Everyone worked hard on writing our letter and figuring out what words begin with "Ee."  Your children were all exceptional!  Just a tip:  when practicing letters with your child we teach them the "hat line" - top, "belt line" - middle dotted line, and "shoe line" - bottom.  This method is taught in Lake Oswego Kindergartens and assists the kids with deciphering where to begin and end.  We highly encourage practice at home and love when they come in and give us new words that were talked about with the family. (great dinner time topic)

Math is always fun and this week included shapes and counting objects and matching the amount to the actual number.  Number recognition is solid to 5 now so next week we go to 10!  Please practice identifying shapes while in the car or at home.  We are working on the concept that many things are made up of the shapes we are learning.  (ie:  a stop light is 3 circles and 1 rectangle)  We also practiced writing the numbers 3 & 4.  These are tricky so patience is a must.  The children can become frustrated so if they start out writing backwards, no worries!  It always turns around, after all, how many adults do you know that write their numbers backwards?

Exploring our world was our theme this week and we passed the globe around daily and spoke about different continents and where we live.  They learned that we live in North America, the United States of America, the state of Oregon, and then they shared which city they live in.    Mac said he wants to visit the "big pink country" which was Russia and just so happens to be his favorite color.  We shared climates around the world and a little bit of culture.  Anna was fascinated with Japan and the architecture.  She liked how the buildings look like they are "stacked up."  (pagodas)

Keeping with our world theme we created a globe with our 7 continents and learned the continent song.  Make sure you ask about it but know that it will take a while before it sinks in completely.  We will work on it all year.

Milk and food coloring, who knew it could be so much fun?  Separation was the topic in Science and the children were fascinated with the concept, but mostly had fun making swirls.  Try it at home for an activity that can last and last!!

Welcome to Pre-K Saria and Sofia!!  The kids were fascinated about the concept of twins and we were happy to have the girls talk about what they knew about being a twin.  Saria knew one was older, but not by how much, (so cute!) and Sofia said they always have someone to play with!  Twins brought on alot of questions that we will continue to explore as the children ask but Parker could tell them apart right away and was calling them by their correct names on the first day!

Thank you again to Venus (Monica's mom) for cutting and finding volunteers for our Halloween Party.  Stephanie (Parker's mom) was the first to step up and help out, YOU ARE APPRECIATED!!!!  Thanks again to Alex, (Aiden's dad) for volunteering and playing with the kids at recess they love it!

Please don't forget to sign up for conferences on our classroom door.  It helps us immensely to speak with you out of the classroom and learn more about the child in your life and makes up better equipped to fuel your childs' need for learning, loving and development.

Warmly,  Ms. Stacy and Ms. Lindsi

classroom notes

We were very busy this week "Exploring our World."  We travelled to and explored many places through stories, games, songs and activities.
We read some great books about exploring like Where the Wild Things Are.  Many of the kids were very excited to read this familiar book from home and it was especially fun to roar our terrible roars and show our terrible claws.  What ferocious "wild things" are in the preschool.  Asher may have the sweetest "scary" face ever.  We also read Hello World.  It is a great book that teaches us how to say "Hello" in many different languages.  Preston tried each one.  Did you know that "Annyoung Hasimnikka" is hello in Korean?  I didn't but it was awesome to hear the kids try to repeat that.  Mason has asked everyday how to say Hello in Chinese,  Ni Hao, Mason!

We've been singing transportation songs this week.  We added another train song to our repertoire, "Down by the station."  We also sang "Row, row, row your boat."  We sang it in many voices and using different body parts to row our oars with.  The funniest is when we row with our tongues and sing at the same time.  The kids also enjoy when we use our pinky fingers to row because our boat is so small and we have to use a very small voice.  Hailey loves to use her very small voice to sing.  We like to row our boats while holding hands with friends.  We sing slower and row slower and sing faster and row faster.  Keeley and Autumn love to row together, well, they like to do everything together really.  We rowed our boats all the way to Australia.  It was a long trip so we had to sing a lot.
In math, we sorted vehicles by color and type.  Some of the kids are expert sorters.  We also got some new manipulatives called crystal climbers and they are super fun but kind of tricky to use.  The kids are loving them and it is very cool to see how creative and intentional they are when building with them.  There were about seven boys building rockets with them together on Thursday.
In the dramatic play area this week, kids were using Chinese food cook books to do their cooking.  Cannen was doing some really serious cooking with bowls, spoons, and plates everywhere and his cookbook opened up to a yummy looking noodle dish.  When he was asked what he was cooking he replied "brown cookies with chocolate chips."  Sounds delicious, doesn't it?

We played "sharing the world."  We used a blow up globe and then talked about how the earth is round like a ball and how the globe represents the earth.  Then we passed the globe around from classmate to classmate saying the name of the friend you are passing it to.  What a fun turn taking game.
The exciting letter of the week is E!!!!!  (exclamation point, etc.)  We learned the elephant song.  It is silly and sometimes loud and is a good song for introducing addition concepts.  We also did some scarf dancing (this fits because our scarves are stored in an elephant.)  We read the book It's Check Up Time , Elmo again and again by the request of the children.  We also made our own earths out of paint and paper plates and out of collage paper and glue.  Ellie F., Ellie P. and Ezra all start with E.  It was your week kiddo's and we think you are all exciting and exceptional (that's true too!)

A big thanks to all of you who scooped up volunteer bags.  You are awesome and much appreciated.
Yahoo to Madi, who is a big sister now!  We wish the best to new baby Andrew and your whole family, Madi.  You are going to be an amazing big sister because you have a big heart and a super sense of humor.

October got off to a great start this week in the Two's Class.  We began on Monday with the children picking corn from our very own giant corn stalks. Yush, Elia and Ruby all thought this was a great fun and made sure every last ear of corn was harvested.

During circle time we are learning new songs this month, including "Mary had a little lamb" and "October brings the harvest".  I have heard from many parents that the children love to sing their new songs for you.  Another favorite during circle time is dressing Mr. Bear for the weather.  Isaac, Charlotte and Everly have all been a great help in reporting the weather and the appropriate clothes for Mr. Bear.

We are a class that loves art.  Brooklyn, Sadie and Finn had a great time making beautiful apples out of tissue paper glued on wax paper. Our letter of the week was C.  Ethan, Audrey and Ryan painted our class C by rolling cars over it in blue and yellow paint. Come in our class and see all the wonderful projects your kids are doing.

Wednesday is a favorite day in our class as we visit Ms. Katie and her Two's Class. Maleah and Grant had a good time making a fall collage.  Play dough, beading, and reading stories were also popular.  Thank you Ms. Katie for welcoming us in you classroom.

We are starting a family photo wall.  Please bring in a family photo your child can share with the class. The kids are so excited to see your pictures in the room.  Thank you Brooklyn, Ruby, Lucy, Charlotte, and Olivia, we love the pictures.  Speaking of pictures, it was great fun taking your kids for their school pictures.

Thanks for sharing your children with us!

We had a very busy week this week. Wednesday was picture day and we all had a great time. Lucy played coy with the photographer to start out, but in the end she gave some great smiles!

We made a beautiful fall collage with our friends from the other 2s class, where we used leaves that Ms. Sosanda brought us. Tillie loved spreading the glue on the paper for us to stick the leaves down.

We made our very own drums this week as we learned about the letter D. Maren used lots of colors when decorating her drum. I'm sure you all can't wait till I send them home.

Xhristo missed Jake on Thursday while we painted with bingo dotters and Isabella loved making her construction paper doggie.

We are all looking forward to spending some time with the letter E next week.

Autumn is upon us and our toddlers kicked off our first week of October exploring cultures around the world.  From Africa to Mexico and back we read, decorated, colored and painted all about the terrific and vast world we live in.

Our week started off with the letter of the week, which was "D."  D is for many things like: dots, dad, dance, dinner, dessert and of course DOGS!  Dogs are a class favorite this year and Zoie, Jane, Hailey and Peyton can often be heard from class howling and woofing to their pals.

While dogs were a favorite topic this week we also did art to represent various countries, like African Animal puppets and fun filled pinatas.  Oscar just loved sprinkling glitter all over his pinata and Piper had hers filled with various colors! The kids just LOVE art!  Getting sticky and messy with art is never an issue with these terrific tods!

For story and music time we read "I am Black - I am Unique" and Luka strutted her stuff to our popular "Marvelous Me" music!

We had a great week and we really want to say great job to Sam who has come so far in our class and is having such a happy time.  Also parents and friends, you have some of the most loving children; quite often in our class, at various moments the kids get up to hug their friends and tell them "I love you."  It is the sweetest thing to see and we just want you to know these kids are very lovable and kind to everyone in class!

Love,
Ms Courtney & Ms Judy
