Dear Peake Academy Families,

What a great week as the teachers and students find their "groove."  Thank you for all of the families that have brought in the needed supplies.  If you haven't brought your supplies in, please do so next week.  If you need another copy of the list just let us know.

Thank you to all of the grandparents that were able to make it to our Annual Grandparent's Day Celebration!  Lots of fun was had by all from grandkids painting grandparent's hands to cookie decorating and classroom visits, it was an amazing time!  We so appreciate all of your support and the kids were so excited to share their classrooms with each of you!

Don't forget to mark your calendars for Thu Sept 29 12p & 4p for our annual Open House.  This is an incredible opportunity for your child to show you around their classroom and share the work that they have been doing.

classroom notes

This week the class reviewed from last week and began many exciting experiences. We reviewed our words from last week, see, be, what, this, the and began working on our new words for this week, and, for, that, was, and on.
The class also reviewed our rhyming words from last week, cat, hat, sat, mat etc... This week the group learned to blend a & n together, then learned all the rhyming words, man, can, pan, than, tan etc..   Jack, Leah and Olive were so excited to read their first story with all the rhyming words they have learned from last week and this week.  I was so proud of them and it was really meaningful to see how much they all are excelling in their academics already.
The class also worked on counting by 2's and 10's in math, they worked with cubes, making different shapes and trying to figure out which shape had more cubes or if they both had the same amount.  These are the first steps to learning division.  In art, the class started working on a family portrait with our art teacher, Mrs. Jennifer, which will be completed at the end of this month ( Mrs. Jennifer comes to do art with our class every Wed., let other Kindergartners know at your child's school. It is a really great class)  and they also made a friend collage.
In PE or "Pwee," as the kids call it, so funny, we worked more on dribbling skills, drills to encourage quick feet, relays and finally endurance drills.

Great week, cannot wait for next week!

PreK is blazing a trail looking for "Bb"s!!

Boy oh boy did we have fun this week working with the letter "Bb."

One of the funniest moments was brainstorming during morning group time all the words around our everyday world that begin with "Bb."  Luke was quick to let us know that "BMW" begins with "Bb." We laughed as he is our resident car expert and also our Star Student for the week.  We began the week  with only 20 words and ended with 27!  The kids were so proud!!  (so were the teachers!!)

Science was all about wax resistant painting.  Brodie loved how his name magically appeared through his paint.  Kaden smiled from ear to ear as he recognized his name showing through the paper.

Since it was "Bb" week we made signs around the classroom so the kids could  identify the words easily.  Beans in a bin were labeled for sensory, our blocks were labeled during center time and our sock basket was labeled so the children knew where to find their socks and put them back in their bags.

We teach writing and math daily, and this week, Ms. Stacy taught Math and Ms. Lindsi taught Writing.  It is so much fun breaking the class into smaller groups so we can get to know them better and see their progress.  They have come so far in just two weeks!!  This week in Writing they practiced circles in preparation for the letter "B."  Math was a blast with sorting by class and practicing subtraction.

Art is always a favorite as we use this time to talk as the kids work.  We dressed bodies that look like us and let the kids decide how to dress their person.  So funny to listen to how they think they look.  You would be amazed to hear how many of them think they are dark skinned!!  Super cute!

Since the theme of the week was Friendship and Feelings, we used the opportunity to role play and speak daily about respect, kindness, safety and how the way other people act and react can make us feel.  We talked about how our feelings belong to us and they are not right or wrong, just ours.  Please take the time to talk with your child about their feelings and what it means to be a friend, as you will love the response.

Our Friendship Rainbow is on the wall to display how we all work and play together.  We are all unique, special and important in our own way and we talk about this regularly.

You have all received your new version of our "Friday Folder."  Please review your child's work and allow them to walk you through it.  Watch how their faces light up as they recall their week and how much effort was put into each task.  It will be a weekly exercise you will all enjoy.  Please remember their math and writing workbooks are to be returned each Monday.  (only Writing came home this week)  Please sign and date the envelope and return it Monday.

Keep busy with your little ones and thanks again for entrusting them to us!!  :)

Hello!  This week's theme was Friends and Feelings.  We used this week's theme to talk about the feelings we may be having as we enter a new school year and meet new people who are becoming our friends!  It is really great to watch the kids as they develop friendships with each other.  They are so silly and so sweet to each other.  Ava has been a very good friend to Alena this week as Alena gets used to her new school.

We read some great stories this week about feelings.  One day we all flew into our nests to hear the story of Grouchy Bird.  It was a cute book and in the end the bird ended up feeling much better with the help of his friends.  The book

When Sophie gets Angry, Really Really Angry by Molly Bang is a story that has an impact on many kids.  When the story was over the kids wanted to see the pictures again so we looked at them again and reviewed what they remembered and reflected on what they thought about what happened in the book.  We talked about what makes us angry.  Ellie said that she gets angry when "someone takes something away from (her.)  That is exactly what happened to Sophie in the story.  Finley gets angry when "mommy won't let me have any candy."  I am sure that can be very frustrating.  Many of the kids agreed that they also liked candy.

We also talked about what makes us happy.  Madi says animals make her happy and Henry liked the plastic bugs he was playing with.  A lot of the kids did like the bugs this week.  Ezra especially seemed to enjoy using the magnifying glasses to explore the classroom this week.

Our letter this week was B.  (Brennan, that is your letter!!!)  Many of our daily activities used things that began with b this week.

In science, we floated boats and then we sang "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" at our strategy meetings.  We also played with plastic bugs.  It was a lot of fun to use the magnifying glasses to see them so close up and as Charles discovered they are also fun to use to tickle a friend.

In math, we counted and sorted bears by color.  We made patterns with bunnies and then used our bunny patterns to make patterns with the kids shirts and shoes.

In art, we painted box lids,  made a big box bus, made feelings faces out of paper plates and made some cool blue squishy bags out of shampoo, blue beads, buttons, jewels, bags and tape.  Natalia loved hers and played with it very carefully for a long time.

Thanks everyone for a fabulous start to a new year.  Please feel free to contact Mr. Thomas or Ms. Angie if you have any questions.  We are super excited to have your kids in class this year.  It is going to be a great one!

Hello Twos Families!

This week we have had a wonderful time with all of your children singing songs to help us get to know everyone's names, reading books about friendship like BEAR'S NEW FRIEND, and continuing making our "little persons" that look just like us!  (Melia,  Sadie, and Finn had extra fun picking out clothing for their miniature selves.) Many of the children have shown a keen interest in our sensory table and the natural world following our gigantic sunflowers that we explored last week (and finding our grasshopper friend last week among the golden petals who stayed with us until the weekend when Ms. Nicole set him free in her yard) so this week we included a few branches of Ms. Nicole's plum tree clipped right from her very own front yard!  The branches had fully ripe purple Italian plums on it that Brooklyn, Grant, Ruby, Elia, and Olivia promptly plucked free and placed in either a large wooden bowl or separated into small cups.  The children were such great fruit pickers!  On Friday or possibly Monday we are going to attempt to use the plums to bake a traditional "German plum cake," so wish us luck!  We will let you know how our creations turn out.  :-)

The children have also been enjoying their ""cozy corner," taking care of babies there or just laying down to rest, and have been having cake parties on our three-tier tray in the housekeeping area.  They were also excited about exploring with blue paint and paint brushes of different sizes to create a sky for our "sunflower mural" and adding to it green stems and yellow petals out of construction paper.  The days are definitely "golden" from their art and from watching your children discover so many things every day they are with us.  Thank you for bringing them!

See you next week.

-Ms. Rebecca, Ms. Nicole, and Ms. Tracey

Apples Apples Everywhere!!

All the projects we did this week with apples were a big hit!  After our taste test of red, green and yellow apples, yellow was the favorite.  Tillie loved the apples and made sure she tasted all of the apples before making her decision.

We used glue sticks to make our own apples this week. Xhristo made sure he used plenty of glue to put all of his pieces on.

We painted with apples, and though it was a messy project, it certainly was a lot of fun!

Our transitions are going very well. All of the children are doing a good job of holding hands as we walk down the hallway.  Maren likes to count along with me as I count all the children.

As always, snacks were a big hit this week.  Lucy thoroughly enjoyed the crackers.

We had a visitor tour our classroom this week and Jake welcomed our new friend, and even offered him a car to play with.

Isabella really found her groove this week on the playground. She loved the climber and couldn't get enough of it!

Ms. Katie

classroom notes

Another lovely week has quickly flew by in our terrific Toddler Class and we just love to share what we get to do with everyone.

First of all, we had a few new faces to our Toddler Family this week: Sloane and Oscar.  Sloane had a a fabulous first day in class playing, but we think her favorite part of the day was running around in the big room with her classmates and our friends from the Two's Classroom.  It is always fun to play with the other classes.  Oscar's first day was Wednesday and he had a room full of girls that day that just loved him to pieces!  Zoie loved sharing books with him and making animal sounds, while Hailey and Peyton giggled and popped bubbles with him.  We love how nice our older toddlers are with our new friends.  Everyone is so gentle and kind!

This week was also the start of learning our ABC's, starting of course with the letter "A!"  Our class painted a giant "A" with our focus color, red and painted apples, because, apples start with "A"'  But of course not only apples are red... Thanks to Jane and Zoie who reminded us that Elmo and Clifford the Dog are also red; ladybugs too!  We red books all about red such as: The Red Boom, Little Ladybug, Clap, Your Hands With Elmo, Go, Clifford, Go and Clifford, Don't Wake the Puppies!"  So much red to be seen this week!

Besides art, we also did a lot of singing and games to recognize our friends names,  like rolling the ball to (name here) and the Friend Song.  BUT...we think the biggest news of all this week would be our first birthday of the school year, and that goes to Miss. Jane F.!  She celebrated her 2nd birthday in class on Thursday with adorable mini cupcakes that EVRYONE just loved to pieces! Jane even got to have her big sister, Ellie join her in class, which was really special!  We hope Jane has a fabulous birthday on Saturday!
