Transportation

This week we had a very fun star student, Leah. She really loved helping the class and feeding the fish.
The class really enjoyed small group time as we learned about the letters of the week, Tt and Jj. The class learned Tt and Jj words and we sounded out different words that start with the letters of the week while writing them. Many students in our class are taking the first steps to begin to read. It is so sweet to hear them sound out and blend sounds together. They all have come so far. The class also, practiced their even & odd pattern as we practiced counting and adding during calendar time. The class learned how to solve addition problems while using their fingers to help, if they were stumped. Kristin, Bodie, Jack and Ashleigh really did well at addition problems.
The theme this week was transportation and during art, the class made paper airplanes, a big yellow school bus, a really cool train track made out of toothpicks and an interesting painted pictures using toy cars. Grace made a very great train track, it was very detailed.
During music, the class learned how to sequence singing "Row, row, row your boat." It was very interesting listening to the class learn how to do this and not get distracted by their classmates singing a different verse. they did great after practicing a few times! The class was very interested in the books this week. Jets, Thomas and the naught diesel, Airplanes, and finally Go, Go, Go. As the class listened to each story, we talked about why each form of transportation is important and what transportation means. The class really had great questions and comments:) It was a very fun week!

Transportation
Planes, trains and automobiles are some of the things we talked about during this week's "transportation" theme. We learned about many different modes of transportation. This is a fun one for the kids because things with wheels and wings are so cool! There are so many great transportation related books out there and we sure read some good ones. Fast Food by Saxton Freymann and Joost Elffers. The Cucumber car is so cute. We listened to Dinotrain on a CD and the kids were glued to the book. Trains and Dinosaurs are a super combination. The New Bike was a good story. We had fun putting on our helmets, then lying on our backs to peddle our imaginary bicycles all through the town. In art, we used made our own vehicles out of wheels, wings and basic shapes. The kids have such great imaginations. Each vehicle turned out different. In math, we sorted and made patterns with transportation sorters. We made number trains. The kids worked really hard building tracks for their trains and then tracing the numbers one through ten on the train cars. Rylee's long track turned out so cute and so straight. Nice job. In science this week, We did float and sink activities but with a transportation twist. We thought about what materials and shapes would make a good boat. A lid shape makes a pretty good boat. Wood makes a pretty good boat. A round rock does not make a good boat. Charles loves to play in the water and this activity was a favorite for him. Our letter this week is l. Lauren begins with L. (by the way- Lauren's favorite way to travel is by plane and she likes to go to Disneyland) Lollipop also begins with l. We sang the lollipop song, and learned a lollipop poem. We made paper lollipops to use for our lollipop activities. Henry's was birthday cake flavored. That sounds delicious. The kids loved their lollipops and had a wonderful time pretending to lick their lollipops and did such great jobs sharing with everyone. Happy Happy 4th birthday to Palmer! Palmer, you are such a friend to all and your excited voice is one of the best ever! Jackson is now a big brother! Congratulations to you and family. You will be such an awesome big brother! We will miss you when you are gone and will see you soon! Graduation is coming up quickly. If you have any questions please feel free to talk to Mr. Thomas or Ms. Angie. Thanks!

Dear Twos Families,
Vroom! Vroom! Vroom! This week we traveled by trains, planes, and automobiles as we discovered all of the different ways people can "go" through the use of transportation. The children read stories about things that go and were able to try to create their very own machines that go, too. Paper airplanes flew over our heads as we decorated our own flying machines! The children created a flying airplane scene out of popsicle sticks and cotton balls, participated in a "car wash," painted "tire track art" using toy automobile tires dipped in paint, and sang many transportation songs. The children all seemed to have a story about going somewhere, like Hawaii or California in an airplane, or to the zoo in a car, or on a special train ride. Our toy parking lot and cars and trucks were a definite hit this week, as were our bulldozers and blocks in the sensory table. We may be extending this unit a bit, as all of the children really love machines that keep on moving, just like they do!
See you next week.

Transportation

Trains, planes, boats are just a few of the ways that we get around.
Our class painted a water scene for our sailboats to sail on. Sadie, Kai, Jake, Jack and Brooklyn made our water scene and Zoie, Yush, Sadie and Finn colored our boats.
Another fun art project was making tire tracks by dipping the cars, trucks and tains in black paint then rolling the cars on the construction paper. Grant, Cohen, Jacob and Cannen enjoyed playing with the cars and making art at the same time. Your little ones have turned out to be great little artists. Good Job Toddlers!
The stories that we read this week were GoGo Airplanes, I'm taking a Trip on my Train, and The Bus.
Our music this week, "Wheels on Bus," "Down by the Station," and "I'm a Little Airplane." As we sang we acted out that we were a bus, train or an airplane. They thought that was great fun and Maren, Cannen, Grant and Jacob were asking , please again, again.
We also were learning about "Red Light,Green Light."
We had a fun week learning about transportation.
Love Ms. Courtney & Ms. Judy
