Under the Sea

 PK Soleil Star Student

This week the class learned about Under the Sea. While talking during strategy
time,  the class learned the names of the different oceans and seas, what ocean
is the largest and is 70 million miles long. They also learned, why the
ocean is blue and when they go to the Oregon coast which ocean they are swimming
in. Logan and Aidan thought it was really cool to learn how the ocean gets salty. (from the rivers flowing over rocks and soil and then flowing into the ocean.)

For story time, the class listened to, 1001 Things in the Sea, On the Spot, Seas of the Oceans and Why it makes an Ocean Wave. They really enjoyed the book, 1001 Things in the Sea, because they loved to see what the different fish looked like.

The letters of the week where, SS and Uu. The class also went fishing for letters with our intern Ms Rebecca. Kennedy and Olive loved the fish they caught so much they saved them all.  After fishing for letters the class learned
to write many different words that start with the letters of the week. They also
learned what sea creatures start with Ss and Uu.

For Art we "the teachers" incorporated the sea creatures that start with Ss. The class made sea horses, starfish, and a sea snake in their aquarium.

Finally, during math time, the class practiced counting, by counting the number of fish they caught. They also put numbers 1-25 in the correct order by visually seeing them and correlating with what they say and see.
During calendar the class is learning about even and odd numbers and the pattern
it creates. Leah, Jack and Bodie are doing well at recognizing numbers and putting them in the correct order.

Have a great holiday weekend,

Ms. Lindsi & Ms. Stacy

Under the SeaPreschool Ocean

We made a splash this week learning about all things wet and wonderful "under the sea."  The kids really got into talking about all of their favorite creatures that live in the oceans and learning about new things, like krill (Ellie found krill to be pretty cool.)
We read Somewhere in the Ocean and Hello Fish.  The kids loved the eye fish and the elefish in Hello Fish.  We also read Don't eat the teacher! about a young shark that has a bit of a problem with biting things when he gets too excited.  The kids enjoyed this but when asked if it was OK to eat children or teachers the reply from from Henry was "no, we don't eat teachers."  All the teachers feel much safer now.   Speaking of sharks, when asked "What would you do under the sea?" Nolan said he would "feed the sharks" and Autumn would "swim with the sharks." and then informed us that sharks "have triangle teeth."  Aren't the preschool kids brave?!  Olivia would blow bubbles and swim on her back!  Very cool, Olivia!
We sang "Five little fishies" this week.  The fish get eaten by a shark in this song (I'm starting to see a pattern...hmmm are you?).  The kids love this song.  We do a little math after each verse and the kids shout out the answers.  We also sang "slippery fish" which is a very animated tune.  We use our wiggly arms for the octopus and our GREAT BIG VOICES for the GREAT BIG WHALE.
In math, we practiced patterns with colorful sharks.  We also played "what's bigger?"  Two sea creatures would be listed and the kids would decide which is bigger.
In science this week, we played with plastic sea creatures in the water.  Then we used the creatures to put inside of the ocean bags we made.  Rylee really loved the seahorse she chose.  Kaden turned his ocean bag into a mustache because he knows whenever their is a fake mustache, Ms. Angie laughs.
The kids have been loving the writing center.  If you are finding bits of paper in your kids pockets they are probably from the writing center because lately many of the kids want to fold up a picture and have it in their pocket.  This week, Monica has been making Disneyland books and calenders and Rory has drawn several pictures of beautiful flowers each day.
In art, the kids made a great fish mural.  It was a several step project and the end product is super cute.  They also made beautiful jellyfish out of bowls, streamers and ribbon.  Mason, Palmer, Mac, Keeley and several of the other kids had a great time swimming their jellyfish around the class and chanting "jellyfish jellyfish."
The kids have had a great time learning about things happening "under the sea."  We are so proud of how the kids have incorporate these
concepts and ideas into so much of their play throughout the day.  Preschoolers Rock!

Under the Sea

 2s Under the Sea Creatures

Hello Twos Families!

This week we dove under the sea to explore the fascinating world of
the ocean. We were able to learn about many different sea creatures
like dolphins, octopus, sharks, fish, squids, jelly fish, sea horses,
coral as well as make our own "Under the Sea" scene on the bulletin
boards in our classroom. Ava, Adam, Noah, and Hailey had fun making
their own little "octopus" creatures out of their very own
handprints. The students also were able to develop a coral reef out
of their hands, too! Who knew that hands could be utilized to make so
many different sea creatures? The children enjoyed reading THE
RAINBOW FISH with Ms. Rebecca, and we were able to discuss how
important it is to share things with each other. We then even made
our own Rainbow Fish and each one has a shiny scale. Later in the
week we created jellyfish and our own sea horses to add to our ocean
scene. Austin, Ellie, and Riley liked trying to find their sea
creatures on the wall! This week, besides singing songs about the
ocean and reading sea stories, we had a lot of building going on with
our legos and quite a bit of "restaurant" play (but hopefully not
seafood!) The children had a fabulous time taking each others orders
and preparing pretend food. :-)

See you all next week!

Under the Sea

Tods Olivia

Under da' Sea was our theme this week and our little (well, actually, they are quite bigger now than they were in September) Toddlers had a boat load of bubble, fishy, floaty fun diving into fun facts, books and
art all about the creatures of the deep! We did lots of art this week on fish, like our favorite one, our rainbow fish project. The children
enjoyed sprinkling various colors onto their fish and then adding rainbow scales. We also made some jolly jelly fish, complete with long
tentacles, but worry not, our jelly fish are friendly, just look at their silly googly eyes..hehe. The kids did well reviewing their colors as well this week when we did our art, they all knew the colors: green, blue, pink, red and purple. Though Isaac did say at the start that all the jelly fish were blue (we think because of his love for
Thomas the Train), his friend Sadie helped him and told him the right colors. Some other fun projects this week that we did were sea horses
and star fish and of course, our own baby beluga whales (which Yush just loved!). One of Yush's favorite books in class is "Baby Beluga"
so he was delighted this week to read it and make his own beluga whale! We finished up our week with a so nifty nautical coloring with pirates, whales and sharks, OH MY!

We read all about different under sea
creatures in the book "Big Ocean." Which had everything from tiny shrimp to killer whales in it. Jack and Finn couldn't get enough! We
also read "Max the Minnow," "A Fish out of Water" and "The Rainbow Fish." Our class had fun making puffer fish faces this week too.  Ask
them to show you their blow fish face and you might get to see it!

This week we said tata to our friend from the school year, Caroline, who has started her summer break and will be in a new class next year.  Caroline was a good friend to many of the kids, especially our younger ones and she loved to read! She was very happy and always on the go. Have a great summer Caroline!

Also we had a new friend helping us at
the end of the week, Ms. Katie. Ms. Katie stepped in for a few days this week and helped our class and was wonderful to have. The
Toddler's love meeting new people! All the kids had a fantastic week and once again, great job to Lucy M., you are indeed a big girl now and
just like your sister, we are proud of how far you've come in class!

Love Ms. Courtney & Ms. Judy
