In Spanish, we have graduated to translating books into Spanish.  I am reading the books (los libros) to the ninos (children) half in English and half in Spanish at this point.  Very exciting!!  Leah shouts out the words in English after I say them in Spanish for her class to hear.

Happy Birthday Jackson!

PK Writing & Drawing Practice

This week in Pre K we worked on the letters "Ss" and "Gg."  We practiced writing them in our journal, did a giraffe mosaic, illustrated a picture using the letter "S" and practiced a sounds worksheet.  "S" was a little challenging so please continue to practice at home.  Straight lines are a lot easier than curves.  We worked on our last names too!!

Art, as always, is a highlight.  Sunflowers were made using black beans as the seeds, a dandelion growth garden is on the wall, we made handprint trees and talked about their importance.  We wrapped up the week with some action art.  Rolling balls across a piece of paper with ribbon made into shapes was exciting and lots of jumping was going on.   Super fun and new!!

Our sensory table is always popular as  your children love/need to get their hands dirty!  This week we focused on measurement and pouring with dirt into bowls, cups and using measuring utensils they children got to determine how many spoons it takes to fill up a cup!

In Spanish, we have graduated to translating books into Spanish.  I am reading the books (los libros) to the ninos (children) half in English and half in Spanish at this point.  Very exciting!!  Leah shouts out the words in English after I say them in Spanish for her class to hear.

Science was a blast deciding what plants need to grow, the parts of a tree, what is grown from a seed, what fruits/vegetables have seeds and how important the suns role is in all of the above.  The kids were fascinated and Aidan was excited to be the first one to let me know the suns importance.

A nature hunt was a big hit.  We pretended to march through a forest looking for items and gathering them.  The kids love this activity and asked for it multiple times.  Soleil was the first to say she "saw" a pinecone so up the tree we "climbed" to gather it!

The building going on  in Stations is extraordinary!!!!  I'm so proud of the progress the girls have made, they are now requesting building over Littlest Pet Shop!

I have been asked several times how you can assist your children at home:  writing their names, first ans last is very helpful.  The technique they will use in Kindergarten is Uppercase for the first letter and lower case for the rest.  (ex: Stacy Orozco)

Update on Ms. Lindsi:  Her doctor will release her May 16th.  We will continue to update you as we know.

Plants & SeedsPreschool Cutting Extravaganza

This week's "Plants and Seeds" theme was so much fun.  We really had a great time exploring the growth cycle of a plant, learning the parts of a plant and talking about the joys of gardening!
We have spent much of the week talking about the way a plant grows from a seed into whatever kind of plant it is.  We have read books to teach us about this such as Acorn to Oak Tree and Planting a Rainbow.  We have planted a small container of grass seeds to be our class lawn once it grows and we planted our own bean seeds to take home and hopefully have lots of beans to harvest and eat.  Yum.  I love that while watering her bean seed, Ellie F. said with excitement (she says everything with excitement) "Let's make MUD!!!"
We love to use our bodies and our imaginations in class.  Naturally, we became seeds to be planted.  One day we were apple seeds and another day we were flower seeds.  The children made their bodies small and round and the teacher patted dirt over each of the seeds.  Then the rain came and it tickled on our little seed backs (then we were giggling seeds).  After rain came sun, to warm us all up and then our roots grew down and we slowly began to grow up, up up into big beautiful plants.  Then flowers were smelled and apples were eaten and kids were laughing and it was all great fun.
We also explored seeds in small sensory containers with measuring spoons, cups and funnels.  We used seeds in art to make some lovely textured paintings.  We compared seed sizes in science.
We read a great book called My Garden in which a girl talks about helping in her mom's garden and then tells about all of the things that would be different in her garden.  The kids enjoyed the colorful illustrations and the funny things like umbrellas growing and chocolate bunnies to eat in the girls' garden.  After the story, we made up our own imaginary garden and grew whatever we wanted to.  Several children included apples and carrots in our garden.  Henry wanted to grow a birthday party and lollipops and Willie suggested "Meat."  When asked what kind he replied "bacon!"  Mac wanted to have 7-up in the garden.  This is not a surprise coming from the kid who the day before told us that 7-up makes seeds grow.
The letter of the week was g.  G is perfect for growing and grass and so we did.  We also made green grass g's in art.  G is for grapes so we ate some.  The kids also remembered that g is for ghost and goblin so we had fun being scary too.  A garden ghost, covered in flowers, visited us a few times and that made us all scream and laugh.
Happy 4th Birthday Jackson!  You have grown up so much this year and we are so proud of you!  Thanks for the super fun party.  Mr. Apples the clown was so silly.  We all had so much fun.  (The kids were shaking with excitement and laughter during Mr. Apples magic show.  It was the cutest thing!)

Plants & Seeds

 2s Flowers

Hello Twos Families!

Our class has been so excited talking about all of the flowers we have been seeing blossoming all over town this spring, which went well with our topic for the week- gardens and plants!  We read about flowers and planting and even sang songs about planting seeds.  The children learned about different types of gardens, and the majority definitely favored flower gardens.  We designed our own class flower bouquet out of coffee filters, and the results were simply gorgeous!  Adam, Noah, Austin, Audrey, Riley, Hailey, Ava, and Ellie all swirled pretty pink, pastel green and blue, and sunshine yellow colored water together into interesting and lovely combinations for their flower petals.   It will be a shame to separate all of the flowers out of our vases for the children to take home, but we know the children will love showing their art work to their families.  We also created a class garden mural and planted our own seeds to take home.  The children should know after our circle times this week that the seeds need sun and water every day!  They were also able to explore working with potting soil, digging with shovels, and putting soil into pots as our sensory activity of the week.  Finally, we have also been discussing vegetable gardens, and many children chose to create their own "carrots" for us to use in a fun display later next week.  Come and see it if you can!

See you all next week!

Plants & Seeds

Tods Lucy Planting

Another week has flown by in our Toddler class, but with each week we see how our little ones are actually not quite so little anymore.  Each of them has grown in numerous ways that it's just amazing and it even connects this weeks theme, which was growing seeds and plants. Our class this week got down and dirty (literally) and planted various seeds in little cups of dirt, from flowers to lettuce, each one of our cuties was a spot on gardener. Cohen shared with us that his flowers he was planting were for his mother. I hope she likes them buddy!! We also, made flowers with water colors, which everyone loves to do..squirting our bottle of water is one of the classes favorite past times now during art! We also painted a blue and green leaves for our giant class tree! We read many, many books of growing flowers, plants and veggies with books like: "Peter Rabbit's-Munch," "Everyone's Hungry," "Plating a Rainbow," "What Do I Eat," and "A Surprise Garden." Our colors this week has been blue and green and for recognizing these colors we read one of Isaac's favorite books "Thomas' Blue Train-Green Train." Also, Isaac, we glad you are coping so well with your cast, our friend. You are a strong little man and your friends are even more careful now that they know you have an ouchy on your arm, keep being so strong and chin up bud! Also, we are so excited for one of our friends, Lucy M. She had an amazing day, completely happy without worries. Everyone is so happy for you Lucy, we are glad you are at ease :D Mia, thank you as always for being our little entertainer in class with your stories of random events, even when class is busy or classmates seem sad, you have a way of lifting spirits, thank you Miss Mia, you are a good friend! Have a fabulous weekend everyone!
