Spanish included animales (animals) as well this week.  We created dog collages, ducks and barns.  Kaden has come so far so fast and now sits right in front of me to compete with Lauren's quick answers in Preschool!  Olive and Leah are the front row kids in Spanish and are having alot of fun trying to "beat" one another with answers.  Super cute!

Farm Life

PK Puzzles

Furry, fuzzy and fun!  Farm Life is the topic  of discussion this week and the kids are loving it!

We are working on writing letters "Ff," and "Aa."  Brainstorming words beginning with these letters becomes more and more fun each week as we press our "brain buttons" and come up with a list.  Charlie has begun to jump right in now and is a perfect fit for our class.

Some new items have been the "stars" of the classroom during our Station Time this week.  Hammering nails into a corkboard and the sensory bin full of rice are even requested more than Legos!  The new strawberry scented playdough is also a big hit!  We are always looking for volunteers to make some playdough and create memories with the kids.  If you are interested, Ms. Stacy has the recipe.  We need lime for next week. (hint hint)  I have already bought the Jell - O!

Directed drawings have brought cows, pigs and chicken coops to life.  Incredible what the kids can accomplish so we shared all of them after we were done and they were all so proud to say when it was theirs on display.  We

talked about how everyone is different, just like the drawings and that we all perceive things differently, and the results were 19 gorgeous drawings and 19 priceless smiles.

Science featured bean sprouting.  We will be watching our plants and charting and graphing how/when and if they grow.  Patience is a virtue!  We have also been brainstorming fruits and vegetables that grow abovebelow ground.  Bodie is really enjoying this portion of class.

Art featured paper plate ducks, bean collages, corn prints, popcorn sheep and directed drawings.  The children are so quick to finish art projects that we have now stepped it up a notch and the ducks were a two day process.  Dylan Kellington wanted to know when his can come home so he can share it with his family.

Finishing sentences is a breeze these days.  Books included "Mooby Mooby Moo," "Farm Life," "Mrs. Wishy Washy," and our letters of the week books.  Everytime I pull out a book to read I feel like a rock star!  Cheers ring out and requests are made by Logan for the "funny voices."

Several parents have asked what the children can work on at home.  Love it!!!!  Reading to your child and

letting them finish the sentence really lets them build confidence.  Also, practicing their letters of the week and just using your day to day routine to take advantage of the "little things" in life that teach everyday.  Examples:  try counting by tens in the car, naming the order of the rainbow when you see one, ask them about the water cycle when it rains beginning with the clouds, I assure you, they will blow your socks off!

Farm LifePS Bottles

EIEIO!!!  The preschoolers had a great time at the farm during our "farm life" theme this week.  We fed the animals, planted the seeds and still had time to sing some songs and have a hoe down.
We read Old MacDonald Drives a Tractor.  It taught us a lot about some of the machinery used on a farm such as plows, spreaders and harvesters.  We read Pigs to the Rescue.  Tegan loved shouting out "pigs to the rescue" whenever that part of the story came up.  The silliest book we read was Look at Me at the Farm.  There are holes in the pages so you can put your face into the book and be the animals.  It was so funny.  All the kids laughed and enjoyed their time to be an animal.  Thinking about Lauren's cute little cock a doodle rooster face still makes me smile.
In art, we finger painted muddy pigs.  Kaden thought they were pretty funny and kept saying "muddy Pig" as he painted.  Thanks for the tractor  pictures, Jackson.  We colored them and used animal stamps to make nice farm scenes.  Jackson has several farmers in his family so he knows a lot about farm life.
We sang "Old MacDonald's farm" (of course) and "Grandpa's farm" this week.  Palmer kept asking ""Hey, do you remember 'Grandpa's farm'?"  We think maybe he likes that one.  Willie is pretty sure dinosaurs are farm animals, so we usually have to sing about them too.  Amelia's favorite farm animals are "kangaroos and bunny rabbits because they hop and are so cute."
Zip, Zam, Zoom!  Z was our letter this week!  Z is for Zebra and we made some very nice zebra stripped Z's.  Thank you Kaden for the zebra paper.  Z is also for Zippers.  Zippers are very useful but kind of tricky so we practiced zipping this week.  Z is also for Ellie B.'s and Mason's sisters names, Zoi and Zoie.
Next week is pet week!  Kids may bring a small stuffed "pet" from home on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.  Please help your child choose a "pet" that could be OK to stay the night at school-just in case.  Please keep special night night buddies at home.  The kids will have the opportunity to tell the class about their pets and make a special pet collar too!  If you have any questions please feel free to ask Mr. Thomas or Ms. Angie.

Down on the Farm

 2s Farm Life

Hello Twos families!

This week the children journeyed "Down on the Farm" in our Twos

classroom and learned all about farm life. What made this topic even

better was how so many of our families actually do live on real

working farms, so those children had much to say on the matter! (Lots

of talk about horses and chickens!) We discussed during circle time

what farms do, why they are important, and what sorts of animals and

crops are found on a farm. We have been singing many farm songs,

reading farm books, and saying lots of animal noises! The children

took turns taking a ride on our "rocking cow" and playing with many

stuffed farm animals, pretending to feed our animals with the "soft

blocks," creating paddocks and barns for them out of the large

cardboard blocks, and playing farm with smaller farm animals grazing

in real hay in our sensory table. Adam, Austin, Audrey, Ava, Hailey,

Noah, and Neve enjoyed making perfectly pink pigs for our classroom

farm. Sadie, Ellie, Claire, Wiliam, and Maddie also made cow faces to

decorate our farm. We even made thumbprint cows going out to pasture

and were lucky enough to try our hands at making homemade butter

during circle time on Friday! Carson, Mia, and Olivia found it most

delicious spread on bread!

Next week our focus will be more on St. Patrick's Day, which on Friday

we had a little "sneak peek" at by learning that yellow and blue paint

make the color green (projects which will soon become shamrocks!) So,

we look forward to seeing everyone in their green next week!

Farm Life

Old MacDonald had a farm ... and on his farm he had a Jake, Audrey,
Caroline...e-i-e-o. The kids had a fun filled weekend learning all
about farm life and what resides on a farm. We kicked off our week by
reading the book, "The Big Red Bar," and in honor of the story the
Toddler class painted their very own BIG RED BARN! The following days
we made various farm animals you'd find on the farm, such as pigs,
cows, sheep and horses. Our littles are excellent with their animal
sounds, though some (like Brookie and Isaac) sometimes think every
animal says Moo or Meow...but hey, it's a start! Other books we read
were, "Cowboy Baby," "Farm," "Arthur on the Farm" and "Old MacDonald."
We had a full week of kids everyday this week, but everyone is doing a
splendid job and oh my, how they are growing! Audrey, one of our
younger ones, is such a big girl with cleaning and helping her friends,
as well as listening to directions and let's not forget our Maren, who
helps during snack time, pushing everyones sleeves up at the sink so
they don't get wet! Also, well done to Caroline who visited the two's
class this week and did an A+ job on her first visit, soon she will be
a pro just like our friends Mia and Sadie! Next week we are
celebrating St. Patrick's Day, so if you wish to share anything (your
kids) with the class feel free to let us know! Thank you once again
for all the love and support you instil in your kids to make them so
wonderful to have around!
