Rain & Rainbows

PK Math Cubes

Radical  rainbows  and wonderful water!  Our theme this week is Rain and Rainbows.  Please make sure to ask your kiddos the order of the colors in the rainbow beginning with the top.  I assure you it is impressive!

We learned about the water cycle, prisms, rainbows and the color spectrum.

We had a blast in Math counting, graphing, organizing and finally, eating Fruit Loops.  A class favorite!  We also used geometric cubes to add and subtract and practiced more of our "Top and Bottom" lessons. We used our rainbows to practice which colors are on top and bottom.   We welcome Neil to  our class who LOVED the Fruit Loops!

Science was a blast!  We used a fan to blow bubbles across the room, then explored if we could get them across just using our breath. A complete laugh-fest!  We also re-introduced our sensory bin and dyed rice in rainbow colors then filled the bin for scooping, touching, building and getting our hands right into the thick of things!  Leah, Soleil and Pearl loved making all of the "white" on the rice disappear.

Letters of the week are "Rr," and "Ww."  We now have a new record:  28 words!!!!!  Please feel free to ask your child (and assist them) in getting as many words as possible during dinner. Going around the table and taking turns, (parents included) is a great family game and you will get to experience the pride they feel after a job well done.  Dylan M. was the master of the letter "Rr."

We read The Hungry Caterpillar, Rain and Rainbows, and Dragon Scales.  We have begun having the children participate by finishing sentences on each page and they are rockin' it!!!!

New playdough has arrived complete with a lovely blueberry scent!  Several little people were amazed that it was homemade so please ask Ms. Stacy for the recipe if you are interested. Incredibly fun project and virtually mess-free! Hours of fun for pennies and your kids will think you are a genius!

Music, as always, brought a smile to our faces.  "Hands Way Up High," is the song of the week. So much fun!  Love hearing how many of you are hearing it at home.  It completely warms my heart.

Art was represented by smiling sunshines with rainbows bursting out of them, rainbow caterpillars, a full classroom full of a brilliant chain of rainbow loops, a full wall of rainbow stamps and rainbow and rain collages using our fingerprints.  Getting messy is a must in Pre-K!

Welcome to Charlie, Neil and Sheynna, our new Pre-K friends.   We love making new friends!!

Keep up the good work parents!!

Rain & Rainbows
Henry's Box
What a great week to study Rain and Rainbows.  We sure had plenty of rain.  The kids have had a great time reading, singing, sharing stories, and creating around the week's theme.

Since rain and sun are necessary to create a rainbow, we made rain, sun and rainbow art this week.  We worked together to create a big sun.  We painted triangle sunbeams and a big yellow circle to make our sun from.  We painted storm clouds using puffy black paint and then made a rainy day group collage using our clouds and rain drops.  Our rainbows were made using rainbow colored half circles that we glued together from largest to smallest.
For math we sorted objects by color.  We also used rainbow colored chain links.  Jackson did a great job making a blue chain.  We also used our large inflatable die for a numeral recognition game.  It is a very fun way to learn numbers and practice taking turns, two very important skills.
We read some great stories like Clifford The Weather Dog, Splish, Splash, Spring, and When Rain FallsThe Rain Stomper was a fun story and we all really enjoyed stomping out imaginary puddles in the classroom after the book.  Don't worry, we remembered to put on our imaginary raincoats and galoshes.  Rainy Day Slug was silly.  Everyone thought it was so funny that Ms. Angie's mom was afraid of slugs.  The kids said they were not afraid of slugs, "but," Mason added "I don't want one on my cheek either."  That is what happened in the story and the kids may be a little worried about it.  Palmer thought it was very funny that it was a banana slug.
Our letter this week was Y.  We used yellow pom poms, paper and paint to decorate and make Yellow Y's.  We also made some collages using lots of little yellow Y's.  We practiced standing and hopping like a Y would (Y's can't really walk because they only have one leg) all the while saying what a Y.  Y is also for some of our favorite words like Yippee, Yahoo, and Yowza!

A great big welcome for Keeley.  You are doing super and we are happy you are here!

****Monica earns the Sweetness Award this week****   One of the younger classmates was having a sad moment and Monica bent down to talk to her and so sweetly said "It's okay.  Everything is going to be all right."  So thoughtful and reassuring.

Rain & Rainbows

 2s Snack Time

Hello Twos class!

Our recent study of weather has led us to this week's topic: RAIN and RAINBOWS! We have had a wonderful time this week making rainy day scenes, talking about the colors of the rainbow, and learning how rainbows form. Adam, Ellie, Sadie, Maddie, Riley, Hailey, and Flynn
worked hard making their "mosaic rainbows," and so many children enjoyed the project that we took two days to make them! The class even joined together to make a handprint rainbow, which is now proudly displayed on our wall for all to see. William, Austin, Neve, and Noah loved using their hands as "brushes" to create our rainbow. We were
also able to make creations out of new colors of play dough (smelly lemon and grape-flavored, too) and also share what our own favorite colors are. Blue and purple are popular colors in our class! And on Friday we painted our own masterpieces with many of our favorite colors, so don't be surprised if you see your little one bringing home
a painting all in blue or red or another favorite color. Think of it as their "blue period" like Picasso!

See you all next week.

Rain & Rainbows

Toddler Times

Well it's been another busy week, complete with new friends, a birthday celebration and so much more!  First off let us welcome another new friend to our class, who did a simply splendid job for her first week, Allie! Also, Luke, one of our younger new friends, we look forward to the months ahead with both our new class friends!! Also this week, our little doll, Zoie officially has started our Toddler class and loves it, especially snack time, no denying that!!  Speaking of snacks and treats, we had a VERY special birthday treat this Thursday.  Peake Academy's dear little friend, Yush, has turned 2!!!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY YUSH!  He brought adorable Elmo cupcakes for the class and received a big birthday hug and kiss from both Brooklyn and Isaac!  We remember when we first saw Yush, when Neil was about two, he and his mother brought him in and we couldn't wait till he eventually joined us in
class, and now he's 2!  YAY!  Also, this week, Lucy T. did a fabulous job getting adjusted in her second week in Toddlers, she's a spirited and fun little girl to have! Another thing we noticed this week is
that Caroline, Maren and Mia happen to know everyones names in class and are quite helpful knowing who's shoes are who's when we return from the big room, thank you girls for being such great little helpers!!  Now, for what we did in class, well, we covered RAIN (of course, we live in Oregon) and RAINBOWS.  We read some old faves liles What Makes A Rainbow, Rain, Rainbow Fish, and other random class favorites.  For art we made a class mural of a rainstorm, handprint rainbows, rain
dance sticks and painted u's as our letter this week is "U."  We learned that umbrella and uncle are two words that start with "u" and that many of us in class have the letter "u" in our name!
