We continue to review shapes and body parts in Spanish.  This week we created a shape mosaic of "el sol." (the sun)  After asking Ashleigh to go around and show everyone how well hers turned out it was a snowball effect and all of the kids began to really focus, wanting to show off their creations as well!  I think we are on to something here!  ;)  Ashleigh even went around to everyones' table to make sure they didn't need any help and to compliment them on their work!

Week 4

Dear  PEAKE Academy Families,

Open Enrollment has begun for external families.  If you have any friends looking for an amazing school please encourage them to come in and get a tour.  If you haven't already done so, please save your child's spot for the '11/'12 school year to ensure your preferred schedule is secured.

Smile for Dental Health Week!  The children were treated with a visit from the dentist and we discussed and learned about happy vs. sad foods for your teeth.  You would be surprised at how well they know what is and isn't good for their smile.  We learned how many sets of teeth we receive, as well as how many.  I took the liberty of discussing the Tooth Fairy and how important it is to take good care of your teeth so she will use them for the front of her castle and not in the basement or garage.  Soleil said she wants to be part of the "tippy tippy top" of the entrance.

More and less is a big lesson in math that we are working on daily.  Logan and Jack like when I try to "trick" them using different items in the classroom.  They are definitely getting the hang of it and "tricking" is becoming much more difficult.

Music is always a highlight of our day and we used the parachute and made a classroom obstacle course with our tables and chairs.  Grace really liked seeing how far she can jump to the finish line.

Our Letters of the Week are "Dd," and "Tt."  "Dd" is one of the more difficult letters, as it uses both a straight and curved line.  We have been writing daily upon their arrival in the morning and it is paying off.  Cash has improved so much!  He loves to bring us his work!  During Strategy we broke our "word" record:  24 words beginning with "T" and 22 beginning with "D".  Definitely Delightful and Totally Trick!!  The cheers were heard school-wide.

Science is one of my favorites.  Magnets are always super fun and making magic by dragging objects across the top of the table with the magnet underneath brings big laughs and big eyes, too!

Storytime is a time of wonder and magic.  This week it consisted of Andrew's Loose Tooth,  Moose's Loose Tooth, Tooth Fairy, Dinosaur says RAAAGH, and Tilly Turtle comes to Tea.  Pearl especially likes when I change my voice for each character.

Presidents
Preschool Hannahs Cutting Skills
President's Day was the perfect kick off for celebrating a Presidents themed week.  We learned a bit about past and present presidents.
We read a few fun stories this week.  The kids found The Life of Abraham Lincoln to be interesting.  It was neat to hear about Abraham Lincoln's youth and how he lived so long ago.  It was also a nice opportunity to talk about the importance of books and reading to young Abraham Lincoln.  We also talked about Mr. Lincoln's tall hat and how he kept important papers in it.  Kaden said he would keep Star Wars in his hat.  We also read Duck For President.  It was silly.
In the spirit of celebrating American presidents, we made several patriot themed art projects.  We made red, white, and blue collages and red, white and blue patterned bracelets.  We made some Abraham Lincoln stick puppets and our own dollar bills.  We also made collages of presidential pets that have lived in The White House.  Did you know that John F. Kennedy had a pony named Macaroni and that Nolan has a dog named Big Dog?  Since we talked about the presidential pets living in the White House, Hannah made sure we knew that her pets lived at HER house.
For math this week, we counted coins and introduced the concept of more and less.
Our letter of the week was X.  We love making that cool sound an x makes.  We also learned to make our bodies into Xs and we learned how an x would walk if it could walk.  It was pretty cute to see the kids all x'd out hopping around.  We learned that x is more often an ending sound and we worked together to paint a box to play with.  It will be super fun when the paint dries and we are looking forward to using it on Monday.
Thank you Ms. Valerie (Jackson's mommy) for the story this week.  It is always nice when you can visit.
It is time for conferences.  If you are interested please let Mr. Thomas or Ms. Angie know.

Weather

 2s Straw Painting

Hello Twos Families!

We have begun our study of the weather, and what weather we are having
this week with our snow flurries, rain, possible winter storms, and even a bit of clear sky peeking through at times (perfect rainbow weather)! We are creating a rainy day scene on our wall, complete with clouds, raindrops, umbrellas, and "puddles," so come and please check it out when you can. Ava, Adam, William, and Paige enjoyed painting our "raindrops" while Neve, Hailey, Noah, and Riley created some of our "rain clouds." The children also used straws to simulate the wind and make "wind" paintings that we will use to create
our umbrellas. Who knows... perhaps there will even be more snowflakes for us to create for our scene as well, since it seems that we might be seeing more of them this winter!

See you next week!

We read some old and some new books on teeth and their uses, like The Tooth Book, Teeth Are Not For Biting and

Of course we read some old classics like Goodnight Gorilla and Polar Bear, Polar Bear What do You Hear? This week we also had another event that started with the
letter 'T,' our friend Lucy M. turned the big TWO on Tuesday and swung by class just to celebrate the special day with all her little buddies. Thank you Lucy and her family for the cupcakes!!!

We always want to mention that our new little friends Lucie T. and Zoie are doing a great job in class.  We love having cute and new faces, as do the other children!

Judy, Courtney and Olga, want to also say thank two of our big boys, Grant and Jack, for being such great helpers this week during clean up, you two are so very helpful! And lastly, welcome back Cannen, we are so happy to have you back and feeling better!.

Our totally tubular toddlers talked about TEETH this week. We all have them and we all need to take good care of them, cause we only get two
sets of them in our entire life! The kids had a blast this week painting yellow stained teeth to white, sadly though, our friend
Brooklyn chipped her tooth (her paper tore) but that's why we have dentists! We did floss paintings, coloring and decorated our letter of the week, which of course is "T," with TEETH!.
The Tooth Fairy.
