We studied "formas" in Spanish. (shapes) The kids are so awesome at identifying them and Aidan was super fast at answering questions during our quiz time. He is so proud that he yells them out and has begun to sit closer to the front so I can hear him!

Presidents
This week in Pre-K we learned about the Presidents of the United States, the election process and voting. We even held our own election: chocolate ice cream vs. vanilla, chocolate is the winner!!
We talked about what qualities a leader should have and about the difficulties and responsibilities that come with such an important office.
Math involved money and identifying denominations and presidents and landmarks on each piece of currency the government prints. We studied more and less by counting money and adding and subtracting our students. Super fun!
Letters of the week are "Ww" & "Pp." Please continue to practice brainstorming words that begin with these letters and writing at home. We definitely see the difference in their individual abilities! Charlie was so pumped when he wrote his name! The sun shone in his smile!

We had an amazing Valentine party, thank you to all of the parent volunteers that made it possible. You are APPRECIATED!!! The crowns were a big hit and Leah and Dylan K. were inspired to start making wedding plans. :)
We read "Presidents Day," "For Freedom," "Pigs on a Picnic," and "Freedoms Child." "Duck for President" was the childrens favorite. Be sure to ask about it. |

Dental Health
We have really enjoyed learning about Dental Health this week. It has been fun to talk about our teeth and how to take care of them. We discussed what makes our teeth feel great like brushing and flossing them and eating healthy foods and what makes them feel not so good like eating a lot of sugar. We found it so funny that when asked what we should drink instead of soda, Parker shouts out Tea! Of course someone else shouted out "I like Soda!" with a big smile on their face but that child shall remain anonymous.
We read great books this week including Vera Goes to The Dentist and My Teeth. Our favorite book this week was Andrew's Loose Tooth by Robert Munsch. It was very silly. Monica wasn't sure whether or not she liked the tooth fairy in the story because she rode a motorcycle.
In art, we used tooth brushes to paint paper teeth nice and white. We made mouthes with marshmallow teeth and nice red tongues. They are so funny. We also drew pictures of what makes us smile. We had lots of sweet answers and some funny ones. Henry said Cows make him smile. Kangaroos make Kaden smile and Rory's little sister makes her smile.
We talked about brushing and flossing. We practiced flossing using cardboard teeth and string. The kids did a great job and many of them said they floss at home. Good job everyone!
We were lucky enough to have Ms. Jessica and Ms. Maggie, dental hygienists who work with Dr.Ryan J. Hughes come and talk with us this week. They talked to us about happy and sad things for your teeth. The kids did a great job identify things made their teeth happy and sad. Except when it came to gummy snacks. I think the kids really just could not believe that something so delicious could make your teeth feel wonderful.
Hey Willie! Our letter of the week is the first letter in your name! Willie begins with W! W is also for water so we did a lot of water play this week! I think Charlie loves this activity best of all. We did some beautiful water color W's. And the W word that is a favorite for so many is Waffles!!! Ellie B. brought in the book The Waffle Story which is great story about Wendy the waffle iron and the invention of the waffle sole for athletic shoes. The kids really were absorbed into the story. The seemed feel a lot of empathy for Wendy the waffle iron and her life. When asked what room in a house would a waffle iron be kept in Palmer shouted "The waffle room!" I can't wait to see Palmer's waffle room! We sang the waffle song and Ms. Suzan also brought us waffles so we could eat them and they were delicious waffles! Yum!
A humongous thank you to all of the families who were able to attend our Valentine's day party. It was super fun to have so many of you there! Thanks to Kaelin and Ellie F's families for bringing in yummies for everyone.
Happy Birthday Ellie B. You are such a sweet girl and definitely the "mother hen" of our class, always helping someone get something or helping put someone's shoes on. Ellie, you are loved by all!
We are so happy to have all of you here with us. If you would like to have a conference this month (or anytime) please feel free talk with Ms. Angie or Mr. Thomas about setting something up. We'd love to talk with you.

Valentine's / Dental Health Month
|
This week we spread love and kindness to each other through our fun-filled Valentine Party on Monday. The children were so excited about receiving their valentines, candies, and even flowers, taking their goodies home in their own specially-made Valentine's Day bags, creating Valentine's Day crowns, and having a special Valentine treat provided by Adam's mom, Ms. Heather. Thank you so much for providing the crowns and treats to make our day so special, Ms. Heather! (And Maddie's mom helped as well! Thank you!) The children loved all that you both did for them, and we did, too!
The rest of the week was, ironically enough after receiving some delicious candy on Monday, dedicated to Dental Health Month! Learning about our teeth also matched our latest letter we are learning, the letter "T." The children discussed the importance of teeth, what teeth are used for, and how we can take care of our teeth by brushing with toothpaste multiple times a day. As a class, we all helped paint an extra-large "toothbrush" and two "teeth" that we think could actually be used by a real fairy tale giant! Ellie, Noah, Ava, Neve, Claire, Austin, William, and Adam were also able to practice "cleaning" a dirty "tooth" by painting it white with a real toothbrush. The children loved trying out the toothbrush for real, and thankfully no one really put it in their mouth.
At the end of the week, we had a special treat that also went well with our letter "T." We received another book from our three-year-old pen pals at the International School of Prague in the Czech Republic. Their preschool class asked what type of "transportation" (an excellent "T" word) could be found where we lived as well as how the children in our class traveled to school. The class in Prague made a book for us about how they went to school and provided us with a picture of a "tram" (so many "T" words!) that some of them used to go to school, so we in turn created a book to send back to them about how we traveled to school. It of course is filled with lots of cars! (and one time machine, provided by Noah). But the children really enjoyed creating their drawings and telling Ms. Nicole all about them.
See you all next week! |

Valentine's Day/Dental Heath Month

Hello Toddler Families!
Last week we worked on creating Valentine decorations for our room so we would be ready for our party this week. Our Valentine bags were taped to the wall and all ready to put special Valentines in. For the party Ms. Sosanda came in and gave us cupcakes, frosting and sprinkles to decorate the cupcakes with. Olivia, Jacob and Brooklyn thought it would be better to dig right in and eat the frosting and sprinkles then enjoy eating the cupcake. After the party we read their favorite Valentine story, Elmo's Fuzzy Valentine.
This week we had a new little friend come and visit with us and her name was Scottie. We all enjoyed her very much.
Yush surprised us Friday and said his first word to us,"NO." I was so excited I gave him a big hug.
Special little things like that are some of the most rewarding experiences of being a Toddler teacher. To hear or see your loved ones do and say is such a joy.
Love, Ms. Courtney, Ms. Judy and Ms. Olga.
